Nice video. I think your point around using the right type of random table is super important. It took me a long time to recognize that years and years (and years) ago when I started creating my own campaigns.
I also agree with the value of the appendixes in the original DMG. Great tools. The reverse shout out to Appendix N was a nice touch.
One area that is probably hard to articulate is how to balance their use. They are an important part of my prep, and add a fair amount of surprise and variety, even for me, when I am running games. But I've also gone overboard in the past, and it felt like I was just pulling random crap out of a hat all night. So there is a sweet spot. Hard to quantify.
