This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Is there a site or a list or something that describes microlite20 variants? m20 isn't very newbie friendly in this regard.

I'm looking for details like:

   more-skills/standard m20 skills/no skills
random versus point buy creation
sci-fi, fantasy, modern
type of magic/power system
contains vehicle creation rules

That sort of stuff.

Thanks!

Scroll to the bottom for the three links
Its pretty much everything there is
Vive la mort, vive la guerre, vive le sacré mercenaire

Ronin\'s Fortress, my blog of RPG\'s, and stuff

Ronin, thanks for the suggestion. :) I'd found that. What I'm really after is summary descriptions--something that doesn't involve reading through 1200+ pages to find which variants I might want. It's looking like it doesn't exist.

You can get some of that info from the file descriptions in the download area of microlite20.org. However, the detail level depends on what author of the rules set wrote. None list everything you are interested in.

Yea--I noticed that too. :o The worst ones for me are the ones that assume I know something about the dates and versions of D&D and what they mean. :confused: I played several versions of the original D&D when they first came up, but that was a long time ago.

Maybe I'll write something up if I decide to use microlite20 for my campaigns. But I'm finishing a chargen program for BareBones Fantasy and I think any m20 person will forgive me for concentrating on work, which is as a software developer at a cancer research center. ;)

Unfortunately, due to the requirements of the OGL to not use names of other games, references like these are needed as naming the specific games directly would be an OGL violation. Here's when core books of various editions of D&D were published:

* OD&D (0e) 1974
* OD&D Supplements 1975-1976
* Holmes Basic 1977
* AD&D (1e) 1977-1979 (usually listed as 1978 as that's when the Player's Handbook came out)
* Basic/Expert (Moldvay/Cook, B/X) 1981
* BECMI 1983 (Companion 1984, Masters 1985, Immortals 1986)
* AD&D (2e) 1989
* Rules Cyclopedia (RC) 1991
* AD&D (2e revised) 1995
* D&D 3.0 2000
* D&D 3.5 2003
* D&D 4e 2008
* D&D 4e Essentials 2010
* D&D 5e 2014
