This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How Much Is Too Much?

How many games per week would be too many for you as a player? How many games per week would be too many for you as a GM?

How many different game groups would be too many for you to be involved in?
"Meh."

David R

As a GM once a week is enough for me. My players enjoy our weekly sessions. Any more would drain the fun out of gaming for us.

Herr Arnulfe

More than 1 session/week is too many for me to GM, and 2 sessions/week is my preferred maximum whether I'm a player or GM. Since I usually play in several concurrent bi-monthly campaigns, I rarely exceed 2 sessions/week. When I'm working on a writing job with deadlines, I usually have to scale back to just one game.

Warthur

I've found that more than 3 sessions a week - as player or GM - is a little too much, but it's rare that I even get the opportunity to play that often. Normally I have 1 or 2 games a week.

I don't GM more than once a week.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

HinterWelt

I have run games 7 days a week, multiple ones per day, and I can say that is too much. Gaming is like fast food or snacks, great when you get it once in a while but you get bored and fat is you do it too often.

I can go several games a week, but really--if it's more than just a couple rpgs, they run together in my head. I have to take notes. Most of my friends are broad spectrum gamers, and we seem to find that we can play a lot if we mix up the rpgs and the minis and boardgames and cards and whatnot.

Gaming, like garlic, is a binary spice. There are only 2 states - not enough, and enough.

ahh, but that depends on the type of food! ;)  Thinking Korean, in the case of garlic.

back on subject, once a week for me.

if i were still in college and single, more would be fine.  Otherwise, to much real-life to handle more than once a week.

If I didn't have to work or go to school, and there were that many games going, I'd happily run and/or play constantly. 3 games a week tops for running though. And I'd prefer a variety of systems and settings if I did something like that.

As it is, I run games weekly when I game (bit of a dry spell at the moment... hoping to get going again this summer).

I used to run once a week, and play twice on other days (Admittedly, one was as part of a gaming club I helped run at work).  I couldn't keep up with that now sadly, but it was fun while it lasted.  I did that for about a year?

Spinachcat

I do 4-5 conventions per year where I GM/play 5-7 events in a Fri-Sun marathon so 2/month is fine for home gaming for me.   More than that would bite into my writing time.   I enjoy having multiple gaming groups.

Right now, I have 1/mo gaming and that works because I am deep in the thick of writing.   Once I get the stuff out there, I will probably join a 40k group or maybe another RPG group.

RPGPundit

I've found that my limits are only based on external questions of other commitments or players not being able to get together on certain nights.  If there was no outside barrier, I'd surely game seven days a week.
