This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How much do you send on munchies?

This will be a poll to find out how much people spend on food and drink for their game sessions.

Me, I spend five bucks. Everyone in our group does. I found that people were spending about fifteen each buying the overpriced stuff at 7-11, we had a lot of leftovers, and people were arriving late as they stopped to get food on the way to the game session. So I said, okay, I'm working from home, and hosting the game session, why not contribute five bucks each to a Geek $ Jar, and I'll arrange the dinners (I'm a chef, so cooking is no challenge for me) and also the munchies.

We drop around ten bucks each, on either pizza or Chinese takeout. I've suggested cooking up a pot of spaghetti, or some macaroni and cheese, but the host's kids are at that age where they'd insist on 'helping', and cause a disaster of epic proportions.

Every week I usually buy a bag of Chex mix ($2 USD) and a 12-pack of soda. (Around $4)

So that's 6$. Usually.

When we get Pizza, it's $20 for two larges at the local delivery place.

Because my two kids always want to get a couple of slices, I often contribute $10 to pizza, and let the players make up the rest. We always seem to have 1 or 2 slices leftover pizza.

Every once in a while one of the other players brings an extra 12-pack of soda.

One guy never brings anything, but always over-contributes to pizza. In fact, if even just he wants pizza, he'll usually spring for it regardless of the vote. Otherwise, the usual contribution per person is $5.

One guy has dietary issues and usually brings oatmeal and bottled water. I think he has some kind of gluten thing. So he doesn't contribute, and that's cool.

Every week, I guess I'm spending between $6-16.

Uh ... is the poll for an individual, or sum-total for the group?

We tend to go low key. Tonights game we had summer sausage (Sliced, 3.99 US at Meijers), cheese (Cubed, 7 dollars US for 3 pounds-so far we've used half), Ritz crackers (2 dollars US, on sale), Olives (Half a jar, 2.99 US), Apples (Green, sliced-1.49 US a pound), Ring Bologna (Sliced, 2.99 for a pound) and rum and coke. (The most expensive item I paid 24 dollars US for a gallon.)

So what 15 minus the rum?

For an individual. That should be obvious from my OP, and from the posts of others. After all, some people in a group spend more or less than others.

About $10 each plus whatever specialty food/drinks that someone wants to bring.

Nothing.  We don't really snack and game.  Everybody drinks water now and that's about it.

Used to though.  Back when I'd spend up to about $5 by bringing cheetohs or somethin'.  Other folks would bring drinks or candy or sommat.

Either you have short sessions, or you are gaming with a bunch of Tibetan monks. How can you have nothing there? A social gathering of some hours with no food or drink? And no, "water" does not count as "drink." Just ask any restaurant or pub owner!

It really depends on the evening. Some nights nobody ate before they came and we order out for something. Other nights everybody ate and there are still sodas left from the previous week so nobody spends anything.

So, when I'm at my own house I cook for my group.  When I'm at their house, they feed me.  I'm gonna average, which makes the cost really, really low, because ingredients are way cheaper per person than prepared food.  Just FYI.

Up to USD 5, but the exchange rate is obviously different here. :)

It's a bit complicated. I cover our pizza costs about once every two months (we play every other week normally) in a group of five players but I also drive folks to and from the game without charging them for the gas that cost me and thus save them the money they'd otherwise spend on transport. I also usually buy breakfast for myself the next day if I stay over.

Back when we I used to game on a regular basis, it was probably close to $20 a game (we were all young, single. and gamed 2-3 times a week).
No one really drank yet, and for the most part our schedules didn't allow for us to get to socialize outside of work much except for when we gamed.

So, when we gamed we would splurge on several 2 liters of soda, pizza, take-out, snacks, cigars, etc. We stopped for one main reason. Most of the group were all pretty active, at work and outside activities. One of our players worked at a game store and had a bad knee from highschool. Needless to say, his weight shot up from about 160 to about 300 pounds.
It scared the rest of us enough to stop indulging so much.

When I game now I usually never spend more then $5 bucks, pack of smokes and a soda. . . sometimes more.

(sorry if this is hard to follow, I'm sick and have an ear infection and am finding it hard to concentrate)

I don't think I have an average. Too many years as a bachelor, eating when I was hungry. I try not to snack – it's expensive and unhealthy. A glass of water and/or cup of coffee is all I need if I've eaten properly.
