This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How long have you been gaming?

Michael Gray

Started sometime in 1983. So 32-ish years. Heh, I remember it well. Krull had come out. We thought the glaive in the PHB was The Glaive from the movie. And if that was cool how much cooler would a glaive-guisarme be? We were kinda dumb kids back then.

Eeesh, we have a lot of grognards around here.
And here I was thinking that except for Old Gronan, Chirine, and me we have a lot of young whippersnappers around here. Fortunately most of you are polite enough to use the walk instead of cutting across my damn lawn.

I thought that the progressives would help.

Demidian

Started in 1997 (at the age of 17) with MERP and Rolemaster. So 18 years.

dungeon crawler

Since 1974. That makes 41 years in the dungeon killing monsters and taking their stuff.

Kiero

Since 1991, though I had a hiatus between 1998 and 2008.

Quite possibly headed for another one towards the end of this year...

Early 90's. Thanks everyone, for making me feel like a kid again:D

Started with AD&D, branched out into Traveller, RoleMaster, WoD, Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer and others. When I found Stormbringer, it was all downhill from there.

Skarg

I see gaming as an extension of play and make-believe, so all my life. First serious wargame I played was Tactics II maybe in 1977-78, then first published RPG (as opposed to invented games) The Fantasy Trip, about 1980.

Melichor

1980
The Fantasy Trip and then AD&D.
So 35 years using published rules. Not bad for being in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming.

Battle Mad Ronin

I started gaming at around age 13, when my friends brought some of the 3rd edition D&D books to school. That must have been in 02 or 03.

Then I played at a local after school activity thing for a few years, lost touch with the people I played with after school.

Started again some years ago, when I started university. That must be around 10, and I have played almost continuously since. Met lots of nice people in gaming after that, wouldn't give it up for the foreseeable future.

As a counter-balance to all those who say this thread makes them feel old, I've never felt younger :D

Quote from: Just Another Snake Cult;858400Since 1981. The "Bad kid" in 5th grade got me into it with the (Then new) Moldvay-Cook Basic D&D set.

Quote from: dbm;85846232 years for me, starting with BECMI Red Box D&D...

Me too! Red Box, 1981, saw the commercial for Toys R us on TV and just had to have it. Never looked back! :-) So about 33 years for me now.

Quote from: Gronan of Simmerya;858406I started miniatures wargaming in 1970 or 1971, and in 1972 I started playing "Greyhawk," which is what we called Gary's D&D game before publication.

I was born in 1971. :-) P.S. Thanks for play-testing the founding game of the coolest fucking hobby on earth. Much love to you G.

3rik

Started in the early 1990s, not sure about the exact year, probably '92 or '93. Had a hiatus during 2000-2005. I'm currently in my mid-forties so I was late to RPGs.

I told my group last night, 28years, which is longer than most of them have been dressing themselves.  I said, "It's an addiction but at least its not heroin."

JoeNuttall

I started playing 35 years ago (age 8) with a game of T&T but moved swiftly onto BX D&D. I've had a couple of breaks so only about 21 years of actual play:

88-88 (T&T, BX D&D, AD&D, MERP, Star Frontiers, Rolemaster)
93-98 (Rolemaster)
2010-15 (BX D&D, Star Frontiers, FASERIP, OD&D, Explore)

flyingmice

Played my first RPG in November of 1977, after my 21st birthday. After that one game, I got my own group together and GMed. Played a lot of wargames before that. I run three games a week now, over IRC and face to face.
