This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How long have you been gaming?

Gronan of Simmerya

Quote from: Bren;858413Started with the ttle brown books in a box (OD&D) in 1974.

And now I feel young again.

Oh wait, I started playing board games and miniatures before D&D, about 1971. Now I feel all grown up again.

I was born about ten thousand years from now;
When they landed on the Moon, I showed 'em how,
And with Goddard, Ley, and Campbell on an interstellar ramble
I'm the guy that caught and cooked and served the chow.

Oh, I'm a lonesome traveller, an old fantastical bum,
Highly motivated, through mystery I have come.
I built the road of yellow, with bricks both bright and new,
And that's about the strangest thing a man can ever do.

I taught the use to Conan of the short Hyrkanian bow,
I taught the Mouser swordplay where the River Hlal doth flow,
I taught parry, lunge, and counter to young John Carter too,
And that's about the strangest thing a man can ever do.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

The rules can\'t cure stupid, and the rules can\'t cure asshole.

Board gaming since the early 70s First was Life.
RPG gaming since the late 70s. Briefly Gamma World and D&D. Didnt really get a chance to get fully into it untill early 80s with Sar Frontiers, Gamma World and BX D&D. BX and Star Frontiers in 82.

Interestingly Id actually participated in an RPG before OD&D without knowing it. Probably around 1973-4. It was one of two school events. The first was a "community sim" sort of thing. the second was a courtroom drama. Heavy on the drama part near the end. More like a LARP really. The community sim lasted about a week.

43 years.

Started wargaming in 1972 with Airfix 1/72 scale Miniatures.
Started playing RPGs in 1977. Had an extensive board wargame collection by then worth several hundred Dollars.
last year did an inventory of my games for insurance purposes, and it would cost just under $30,000 to replace my gaming collection. I have a few rares that would be difficult to replace.
Know a few folks with some serious game collections that go into six figures...

<---- P.S. that's a picture of me when I was younger and fought side-by-side with Conan the Barbarian...
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

Democracy, meh? (538)

"The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn't even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it."

I am also new here, you might say I'm a refugee from RPG.net, and I would like to answer your question.

I have been gaming since I was 11.  My first introduction to tabletop gaming was through a little game called Warhammer 40,000.  Keep in mind, this was 1996 and Second Edition was still in full swing.  I have fond memories of Second Edition.

In any case, what fascinated me most was the lore, so I decided to get into RPGs.  My first RPG, was RIFTS (ugh) which I got into when I was about 14.  Which I bought the books and read but only tried to run once or twice, with disastrous results. Eventually I came to, realized what a broken mess RIFTS was and started experimenting with other systems, and never looked back.

I'm currently running Savage Worlds.

Welcome to wackyland.

Have 2nd ed 40k as well. Never got to play it.

As for Rifts. The thing with Rifts though is that you have to approach it like Gurps. The DM needs to figure out what level of play they want to run and what things need jettisoning and what to keep.

I've been gaming for 20 years or so, almost no hiatus.  I'm still going strong.  I've got gamers in my group plying as much as me and a few with as much experience as the OP.

And in my monthly group one who's only gamed once before!

Ravenswing

38 years for RPGs, and wargaming a number of years before that.

Eeesh, we have a lot of grognards around here.
This was a cool site, until it became an echo chamber for whiners screeching about how the "Evul SJWs are TAKING OVAH!!!" every time any RPG book included a non-"traditional" NPC or concept, or their MAGA peeners got in a twist. You're in luck, drama queens: the Taliban is hiring.

About 31 years, since I was 11. Think I had my first Fighting Fantasy gamebook at 10. :)

Edit: Probably was playing hobby wargames like Warp War also at 10, 32 years ago.
