This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How long have you been gaming?

Hi everyone,

I am new here and I was curious how long everyone has been gaming.   For me, I have only been gaming for two years.  I started playing Savage Worlds and a couple other games.

Right now the game I am playing the majority of the time is D&D 5th edition

39 years I think. Holy crap can that be right? I'm officially old.

Wow, you have been gaming much longer than I have been alive.  That's a long time to be gaming

As If

It was 1977 (38 years ago!)  D&D white box set.  The GM kept his stuff behind a screen and my first character lasted 15 minutes.  Killed by a poison dart in a chest I tried to open.  I went home that night with practically zero understanding of the rules, and designed my first roleplaying game. :-)

Something tells me I might be the youngest person on this site

Someone has to be, it's no big deal.  Old Geezer (Gronan of Simmerya) is older than dirt and we have a couple more codgers in that range.  But we also have twenty-somethings.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Just Another Snake Cult

Since 1981. The "Bad kid" in 5th grade got me into it with the (Then new) Moldvay-Cook Basic D&D set.

About 20 years now.

I love when this question gets asked because I get to feel young for once ;)

Since high school so... 15 years or so? I'm approaching mid-thirties (holy crap is that depressing).

Emperor Norton

I've been playing for about 25 years. I'm not that old though, I started playing when I was 6.

Gronan of Simmerya

I started miniatures wargaming in 1970 or 1971, and in 1972 I started playing "Greyhawk," which is what we called Gary's D&D game before publication.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

Similar to Emperor Norton, I was exposed to RPG when I was quite young, but I really didn't play frequently until high school, and not steadily until college back in '97.

Aside from running some D&D 5e, I've actually had to lay low this year, but I plan to break the drought this weekend. :)

RPGs? Just about 40 years. I started playing D&D in 1975. I had played wargames (both board and minis) for 4-5 years before that.

And now I feel young again.

Oh wait, I started playing board games and miniatures before D&D, about 1971. Now I feel all grown up again.
