This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How I requested deletion of my D&D Beyond Account

It's a three-step process.  There's a 'Delete my Wizards Account', 'D&D Beyond Account form', and a 'Delete My Personal Information form'  All three use the same helpdesk ticketing system.  There's no automation for this.  They also require a paragraph detailing your request, so I used a version of this:

QuoteTo request a deletion of my Wizards Account I have filled out this designated form. I am ready to supply additional information to confirm my identity. You will be readily able to confirm identity, and will have no grounds to reject a deletion request. I understand that requests can take up to 30 days to complete after identification, though I would point out this is supposed to be SaaS and that's generally unacceptable in your field. I am aware that you will retain information as may eventually be necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our agreements, even though I will have also filled out the 'D&D Beyond Account form' and the 'Delete My Personal Information form'.  Your integrity issues are why I am ditching the dragon in the first place.

They also requested an attachment, so I submitted a PDF printout of all my purchases.

Finally, they wanted an order number, so I grabbed the lowest one off of that form:  00023

We'll see if they comply...

Sounds like a real pain in the arse, like they're intentionally making the process difficult to avoid losing accounts. I don't know where, possibly California, but I'm pretty sure some corporation was sued for the very same reason.

The first response back was an effort hurdle.  Basically it says "in order to process this request, you have to provide us all the information you already provided, again."

That's the hard way. I got it done real fast. You just have to go post exactly what you think of the way WOTC does business and how intelligent you think their choices are and maybe list out some examples. Top it all off with a few choice reviews on some of their wonderful products and they will take care of your account for you!

They seem HIGHLY motivated to assist you with that sort of customer service.

Wow, so this is a much deeper well than I thought.  They've asked for even more verification.  The last one may have worked after I added "Please process this request before WotC lays you off".  I got back a reply that says I have 72 hours to change my mind and that I will receive no further confirmation on the request.

So what happened? Any news yet?

The 72 ended today, but I assume they're not working weekends.  If I don't hear by EOD tomorrow, I'll ping them.

They're only working the one request, by the way.  The other two never got picked up from what I can tell...

Today's a holiday for many US companies, so you might want to take that into account.

At this point, why not just reach out to your bank and just cancel payments?

Terrible idea, overwhelming majority of ttrpg players can't pass Voight-Kampff test.

I cancelled the sub about a year ago.  Now I want to disassociate myself from them entirely.  They have a process for it, so I don't think it's very much to ask them to use their own process.

Amazon got dinged for their process requiring too many clicks (a handful, I think). They have to make it one (which seems prone to someone fat fingering things or a cat walking across the keyboard).

This seems to have been at least partially completed.  I can no longer log in, and Google site: searches for my username fetch a bunch of deleted posts now.

It was much easier to request last year, this smells of deliberate delays.

Well they flat out shut down being able to delete accounts during the big blowup so fallout from that was inevitable.
