This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How About This?

One Horse Town

All the talk about the wilderlands setting recently has got me all sweaty.

I thought i'd post this here as no-one seems to read the PbP forum.

How would you feel about a wilderlands PbP game? We'd be using the SRD (i'll post a link if you need it) and i like apparition 13's patended campaign starting method ;) , so i thought i'd give that a go.

I'll roll randomly for starting position of the campaign and extract some gaming goodies from the result. I'll then post that to an OOC thread in PbP.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to take that initial campaign primer and create characters from it that fit that setting/area. Chances are that the starting point may require a start above 1st level, i'll post any requirements in the first OOC post. All you have to do then is create your character and a little bit of back-history exploring how you all came together.

One thing though. Although Psionics are a part of the wilderlands setting, i'm not really familiar enough with them to allow them in play, so no psionics in this particular version of the wilderlands. I also do not have the players guide to the wilderlands, so this would be strictly SRD.

Is anyone in? If so, answer here, but don't get carried away with character details or ideas until i post the first thing to the PbP forum.

If there's enough interest, i'll get to rolling and thinking about this tonight and post something tomorrow. The core posters here are active daily, so i would expect a post a day in the game if it gets enough interest to get going.

Apologies for the wrong forum, but as i mentioned earlier, no-one sems to read the PbP forum, so i thought recruiting here wouldn't be a bad idea. If mods want to move it, sorry for the inconvenience.

Proposing a PbP campaign here isn't the "wrong forum". Once you actually run the damn thing, you'd need to do it there though.

Hey OHT, check out //www.rpol.net for a pretty slick play by post system. No offense the therpgsite, it's just vastly better at hosting games because that's what it was designed for. There's a few other free PbP sites out there, I just prefer rpol because it's the only one I've ever used.

Once a day mate, that's all. Five minutes!

We'll see anyway. Not much going on at the moment. I thought it'd be cool here because there's a nice core of posters that are here every day. If not, fair enough. :)

Just to chime in with support, I think it might be kind of neat.  It'd be an interesting chance for me to finally become familiar with the latest iteration of the "D&D" system, if'n you can stand a Swine-positive collusionist like me.

That term means little to me. If you're interested, you're interested. What you do in your own time is none of my business! :D

Looking over the d20 SRD (I Googled up the link a little while before you posted it), I have to say -- damns if I didn't get kind of excited by what I saw. :)

Cool. :)

I'd probably want a minimum of three players to get this off the ground. So if anyone else is able to commit to half an hour to create a character and five minutes once a day to keep the thing going, i'll start up.

In case anyone is waiting to see the campaign starting place and general thrust, i guess i can post that so that people can decide if they want in or not. Your call, let me know if that's holding you back.

As we have quite a nice compact community here, i thought it'd be nice to actually get a PbP going here. :)

Color me mildly interested right now. To be honest, I have about >-< that much familiarity with the setting, but I know d20 in and out.

THAT said - that's a fantastic website!

Well, you're one up on me. :deflated:   As I said above, it'll be interesting familiarising myself with "D&D" after all these years.

Very complete, yes, but here's one that I found that seems a little easier to navigate.

By the way, is there an online resource for the Wilderlands setting?  I had only the most passing familiarity with it back in the days of 1st ed. Greyhawk (er, this is a Greyhawk or Greyhawk-derived setting, isn't it?).

THIS is the Judges Guild websight, and THIS is the forums page, Judges Guild is towards the bottom.

Wilderlands are not related or derived from Greyhawk, though they came out fairly close together.

Oh, and One Horse Town, I'm glad you liked the idea.

See?  I told you it's been a while.

(How embarraskin! :deflated: )

Yeah, i sort of jumped the gun there. Both through the amount of work necessary to gather together all my stuff to run a Rolemaster campaign and the ability to actually do it. Also, to be honest, i prefer a compact board like this one to get this wilderlands thing going. I can manage to do this with only a bit more of a time commitment than the players, whilst i looked at what i needed to do for the rolemaster one and quailed horribly. If i get more free time, i'll resurrect it.

Sorry if that pissed you off. :deflated:

There's not much confirmed interest here anyhow. If Ian & Werekoala confirm their interest then i'm looking for one more player. I'll make an OOC thread in PbP forum this evening and post details of starting area and a general feel for what is happening. If i get three interested in that then cool. If not, also cool!

There's no great need for players to have or be familiar with the wilderlands setting as i'll throw info in as we go along anyhow. Just some interest in the SRD rules, a link to which i posted upthread. :)
