This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Will there be an Honor Harrington RPG and space combat game? God I hope so.

Bummer.

But thanks for the info.

Is there a reason why you write in red?

Yes, to mock the goderators at rpg.net.

Aye, let's all do it together:

This is fucking silly.  It's annoying to read and I sincerely doubt the mods there know or care.

Settembrini, remember how you said you didn't want Nuthkinlanders to use their inside jokes here at the RPG Site? Well, I'd rather RPG.net crap didn't get brought here either. I'm not, and never have been, a RPG.net regular, so such stuff leaves me on the outside, which was the problem you had with the Nutkinland stuff.

Anyway.

I wonder why the Honor Harrington RPG isn't going forward? They're not overwhelming us with details there, are they?

There is a starship combat game for the setting. It's the Saganami Island Tactical Simulator. Go to Star Ranger's Starship Combat News for all your space combat news: http://www.star-ranger.com/SITS.htm

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Perhaps because the space combat game already exists so there is an issue with publishing rights to games based on the setting?

Here's what I heard: The license was up for renewal.  Hunter realized that he had spent a pile of cash on the first licensing deal and got no product out the door.  So he opted not to throw good money after bad.

That's a sensible decision.

Anyway, it'd be nice to see a RPG for the Honorverse. For universal systems, this would necessitate just a sourcebook. I'm thinking of GURPS and d20. Matter of fact, d20 Modern, coupled with the d20 Future supplement, seems to already have most of what you'd need to play such a game mechanically, so a book detailing the setting would be just about all you need there. GURPS is pretty much the same way. The only thing either would really have to bear down on is space combat. There is no getting around that space combat is the essential element of the Honorverse. Lovingly detailed, page upon page of space combat. Any RPG based on the setting would have to address this right in the game. It would have to be detailed, but not so detailed that it becomes a case of just playing a game like SITS with some character flavor tossed in. Maybe just use SITS, but include a copy of just the rules with the RPG (I think the reason SITS is so expensive is because of the minis) and include counters for the ships, as well as rules tying the PCs into the ship combat.

Well, I didn't star posting all in red, did I? But I see you don`t want me to encourage anybody. And that`s sensible.
Anger is a huge motivator, though and sometimes it`s good to fuel the fire to keep everybody moving. Elsewise we could all stop posting, as this is all just a pastime. As said earlier, I like the emperor naked. Being childish is part of the fun. If that took intarweb fun away from you: sorry.

Not to derail the thread, but I appreciate what you're saying. As I recall, you were irritated enough by the Nutkinland inside jokes and references to say something about it. I accepted it and have kept such stuff to a minimum. So that's why it's a bit galling to keep seeing RPG.net arguments popping up here.

I see. Double standard and all. You have a point there.
