This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Holy Shit] Monte Cooke's World of Darkness

I very much doubt it'll be d20, by the way. Monte has done more than d20 in his career. I can't imagine he'd want to change WoD into a whole other system.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Quote from: StuartI thought he announced he was finished with RPGs and Ptolus was his last RPG book?  Is he back already?

He said that after Ptolus, there was one more RPG project he'd been offered that was simply too cool for him to pass up.

Best exchange:

"Who's Monte Cook"

Reply "He designed Planescape"

Boy, their hat of d20 really runs deep over in them parts. I guess after a brilliant career doing Rolemaster and 2e D&D Monte Cook disappeared. Who knew.

Can´t you all see it?
It´s a major win for us!

Monte did bring greatness to pretentious Cthulhu, and he´ll make the WoD into an Adventure Gamers paradise!

Rock on, Monte!

Finally, even I will be able to play a Mage or Changeling.
Finally there will be real scheming and plotting in Vampire instead of hollow phrases.

At least that´s what I hope.

If I strain my brain really, really hard, I can kind of understand how one might brand CoC pretentious.  But in order to do so, you have to also brand Lovecraft himself pretentious, as well as his stories, because CoC get's everything from it's daddy.

I think you'd have a long hard road ahead of you to sell that one.  It could be done but, it's a stretch.

Oh, well  I forgot, you guys already had a functional CoC. German Cthulhu is special.  Here it´s  not a regular RPG, it´s a conspicious consumption jeux d´ambiance. Candlelight & lavish Handouts.Rolling dice is poo-poo´d here with most cthulhu fans. D20 Cthulhu was outrightly fought, as being the evil incarnate.

Huh. This is really, really interesting on about 20 different levels, especially when you mix it with CCP's purchase of White Wolf. Until we know more, we can't really say what's going on. It could be a d20-derived version of the WoD, or it could be a WoD game simply written by Monte.

In any case, this is really, really interesting on a business and creative level, and I mean that in the Chinese proverb sort of interesting.

Hmm, maybe this is the first in a series of Mix-and-Match WoD collections. They've got a generic ruleset and several supplements. Now you could design a setting (a World of Darkness, so to speak) that combines and changes those elements. Now get some authors with known names and let them make those setting books. A pinch of Promethean, Werewolfs with a different agenda, Predator-like aliens, some bits of Chtulhu.

Sadly it's to late for David Hargrave's WoD...

I am salivating at that possibility.  Forums will burn; entire servers will collapse from the strain.  Scattered cadres of RPG raiders will scour what remains of the online community in search of reviews and photoshop threads.

It'll be more fun than wrassling a greased hog.

That makes so much sense it's actually a little scary. :)  It'd be cool, fershure, and be a built-in safety valve against setting creep.

Quote from: ColonelHardissonI can't imagine he'd want to change WoD into a whole other system.

Yeah, that would be...

...wait, what?  Why the fuck else would he do "Monte Cooke's World of Darkness" if not to have it be another system, or at the very least a complete overhaul of the ST system (ala Arcana Unearthed)?

What do you expect, them to ship the WoD book with Monte Cooke's name on the cover and nothing changed?

Anywho, I could give less of a shit about the WoD, but a D20 version by Monte would certainly be amusing.  I wonder if there'll be a monster manual.
