This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I don't understand.

(Also, does anyone else find Monte Cooke's tendency to name his products -- even those that he doesn't write, like IH -- "Monte Cooke's X" extremely annoying?  It irritates me to no end, but then I'm naturally irritable.)

I would be pleased to see a d20 version of the World of Darkness.

It's true. It's real. The book is called Monte Cook's World of Darkness and it debuts at Gen Con Indy, 2007. Speculate from there until we give you facts (though I know how the internet loathes facts).

Cheers,
Will

I thought he announced he was finished with RPGs and Ptolus was his last RPG book?  Is he back already?

Given my dislike for both the World of Darkness and most of what Monte Cooke has written in recent years (I rather liked some of his stuff back in his Rolemaster days, viz. Dark Space and Creatures & Treasures II; but even this early admiration is tempered by my loathing of the later Rolemaster Companions which he edited, and pretty much everything written for Malhavoc), I have zero interest in this product.

Nonetheless it amuses me to no end that this product constitutes a serious challenge to the Pundit's 'friend-or-enemy' (Carl Schmidt-ish) analysis of the RPG field.

Don't you think it's more likely he'll claim victory?

Anyway, why the fuck isn't there up to date news on the GenCon website about announcements like this?

We are witnessing a potential apocalypse.

ESPECIALLY if it's a d20 version.

The fury of the flamewars over this will boil the entire internet into vapor.

No, I don't. Monte is one of the few game designers out there with any real name value. It makes sense for him to have an imprint like that. If he is effectively endorsing a product, those who are fans of his will be more than likely to look at a book he "presents." I know I certainly pay more attention to something if his name is on it. Doesn't mean I'll buy it necessarily - I never really cottoned to Arcana Unearthed, for example. But I'll certainly give books with his name on them a second look. Other than AU, pretty much anything Monte's done or been associated with in D&D (2e and 3e) and d20 has really interested me.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.
