Bulldogs! pretty much nails it for me.

I like soft-sci-fi, basically adventure stories with sci-fi trappings.

I like the setting to be instantly accessible and not burdened by tons of game lore.

I want to see cool, playable alien races (and area a lot of non-licence games seem to struggle with).

And while it is not essential, I like it when a game come with an explicit  default mode of play that isn't just bum around and try to make some money and that is supported by the rules, specific GM advice and adventure seeds.
