Title: Hex Question!
Post by: Genly Ai on February 09, 2016, 04:15:28 PM
Hey all,
I am trying to map out a series of 12 mile hexes in one mile hexes....I realize my wording may be a bit off but my question is....how many one mile hexes should be in a twelve mile hex?

Or am I just stupid.

Depends on from which point you map the smaller hexes from. Assuming 1-for-1 and same orientation and edge to edge measurement.

It would look something like this.

Or this

Thank you very much for that, it seems to have solved my problems!

I use the 6-mile across hexes as it maps to horizon view the best. You can just see into the next hex from the center.

And Welcome to the site.

Wait, so is this correct if each of the red-lined hexes are 12 miles? Or are they six in that respect? Thanks for your help!

If each of the red hexes are 12 miles across, then each of the smaller hexes will be 2 miles across.

With those off-center smaller hexes its a little odd looking.

But it counts right. Each small hex is 2mi across or center to next center.

A note: Standing in the center of a small hex the party will be able to see about to the outer edge of the adjacent hexes if they have a clear view to the horizon.

I use odd numbers (11 or 13), so that I always have a small hex in the center of my larger hex.
