This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Here's one that might make people twitch...

My girlfriend is having me help her run a D&D version of The Land Before Time, with the critical difference that the PC are wyrmling dragons of different colors. It's original...but I've no idea where she gets her ideas from...

(and yes, she is accounting for CR differences by adding class levels to the weaker dragons)

Interesting...

I got confused.  At first, I was thinking that you were talking about Land of the Lost.  That would be fun if turned up a notch.  Train the ape people and start taking out the sleestacks.  Just don't get eaten by the T Rex.

Sosthenes

I'll give the marriage 5.6 years if the dragons are metallic, 2.4 if they're chromatic.

We still need to figure out if she and I are marryin' types. On the other hand, we've got people lined up for anything we theoretically might co-GM in the future. That could be interpreted as a good sign.

And for those who know D&D, would you think it better to add class levels, hit dice or templates to keep the dragonling PCs of equal ability? Because I think a Celestial Brass Dragon Wyrmling might almost be on par with a Gold Wyrmling...

Personally, I'd recommend introducing a slightly retared White Dragon, using the player who's the most likely to come up with cute things to say.

Abyssal Maw

If it were me, I'd borrow a copy of Savage Species and break the dragons down into 20 level monster-classes each. Looks kinda like this:

(example is a minotaur).
Download Secret Santicore! (10MB). I painted the cover :)

Personally, it sounds more like a concept for a short story or novella than a gaming experience, but, hey, run with it! :)

I'm coming in to the discussion a little late, but I'm the girlfriend who's planning the game.  I'm planning to have the weaker dragon types be slightly older than the stronger, to even out the power level.  Dsivis has agreed to be a GM plant and is thinking of playing a pseudo-dragon with enough class levels to put him on even footing.  One thing that I'm uncertain about is this:
Since the game begins when the wyrmlings hatch, I'm thinking of not letting the players see their character sheets right away.  That way, they would get more into the experience of being new to the world, and could discover their abilities on their own.  I'd appreciate input.

FWIW, that's already been done in the pages of dragon, and there's a technique to roll your own in Draconomicon.

Well, if the players are willing to try it, i'd say it could be a good experience. Personally, if there were time to spend, I'd say the best way to even the power level is to use some AD&D-like XP-table, taking into acount that weaker dragon types are supposed to need less time to develop. I don't see a way to give them HD or class levels that would mate well with the concept of they being newborns (or is it newhatched?). On the other hand, I know that there's a lot of people who won't like this, but I would be just as happy playing, for instance, a copper dragon, or a blue or white one, for the roleplaying part without caring for BAB or HP or spell-likes. But then, that's just me.
This isn't probably of any help, but anyway, good luck, I think it could be an interesting game.
