Help needed

Not sure if this is the right board, but I need some help from the RPG community. I'm writing a paper on religion and Tabletop Role-Playing Games and I'm trying to collect data on themes players and GMs tend to associate with the various genres of RPGs. If you would be willing to help me out, please click the link below to get to the survey I've created for this purpose.

Question 6 is dodgy. You can only put one mark in each column, making it impossible to associate a genre to all the words.

Question 6 still only allows one entry per word, so Violence, for example, could be associated with multiple genres but only allows one to be chosen.

Yes, that's intentional. While a lot of games have violence in them, when you hear the word as a player/gm is there a genre that you more readily identify as associated with that word?

Answers will largely depend on your experience and games played. If you only play core D&D, then you'd associate almost all of those words with a fantasy genre; whereas if you played a lot of different games in multiple genres you might associate certain words with specific genres based on past experience.

With the exception of chaos and humor (and possibly angels/demons) there is not one type of game I would associate more readily than all others with any of the words listed.

It makes me wonder if you will get any useful data from that question.

Probably not in a public forum. I'm happy to discuss it in private messages/email though.

One of the respondents has suggested I've already unduly biased the responses to those interested in (or possibly antagonistic to) religion because I mentioned religion in my request, even though the survey itself has nothing specifically to do with religion.

And I agree that many of the types of games have many of the aspects closely associated with each of those games - violence takes place in my fantasy, sci-fi, and superhero games, pretty regularly.

And, honestly, love has no place at my table other than as a background vehicle that may drive a character's development.

Redemption and justice, as with violence, cross genres pretty regularly - all player-characters, no matter the game setting and who is playing them are seeking redemption (validation) and justice (of some sort).

I replied as such on my questionnaire, but I agree question 6 is problematic in a number of ways. There is no such clear association with one genre for me for most of the terms. And I would add a genre for Judeo-Christian/Islamic-themed games, which OVERLAPS with all of the other genres any of which can have such themes or not, and that genre is the one with which I most strongly associate most or all of those terms.

Also, even when I do have some associations, it's about the specific games, game worlds, sessions, and groups I've played in/with, NOT with the genre, with very few exceptions.
