Some might call you a moron.

I'd call you a guy, who knows what the life is all about, meaning: being alive.

Some new releases have been announced over the past year that may be useful to those who want to run a game, or who are just fans of the material:

He-Man and She-Ra: A Complete Guide to the Classic Animated Adventures--a 500-page guide to every episode of the series, written by a fan who's been studying and critiquing the Filmation series for over 20 years. This is essentially 200 adventure outlines ready to go. :) Releasing at the end of August.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Newspaper Strips--a collection of what may be the most obscure telling of the mythos. Even I've never seen more than some scanned samples of these. :)

And just announced this past week for a release in May 2017, an 'Encyclopedia'/Character and Location Guide that looks like it's going to cover every version of the series, from the original mini-comics to 200X.

And if you need background music, you can still get some copies of the limited edition cartoon soundtrack. :)

My wallet hates you.

Quote from: JesterRaiin;902148Whatta coincidence!

Been reading He-Man comic book lately, the one where He-Man loses his memory and thinks himself a mere woodsman. At first I treated it merely as just another reboot, an attempt to milk a dying cow (or whatever is the proper expression for that), but then I thought to myself that it's actually quite great story, and could work well as RPG scenario.

Perhaps it's time to think about it more?

...and I friggin' already abandoned my initial plans to write a scenario for KULT RPG and focus on WH40k instead... Oh great.

Fun fact: After the first two arcs, which were written by Keith Giffen, the DC comic was taken over by Dan Abnett ... who I believe is rather well-known for his WH40K work. :)

I found the Giffen arcs better in concept than in execution, but things improved when Abnett took over and when they brought Pop Mhan in on art. It's not high art by any means, but it's fun and definitely full of gameable stuff ... including the creepiest take on King Hiss we've ever seen.

Quote from: Celestial;843354For some reason, I recently developed a hankering for role-playing He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.  Granted, I recently watched the Dolph Lundgren movie from '88.  In any case, what would be a good system for this?  I know of Cartoon Action Hour, but that's a little too... narrative for my taste.

According to one of the designers. The figures were inspired in part by D&D sessions. O or BX D&D I believe.

A combo of BX and Gamma World would work. Or D&D with some items renamed to tech.

Or even use TSR's Marvel Superheroes RPG.

Id go with BX since its less complex a system and pairs well with GW.

Plot thickens. All it needs to become greatest masterpiece in comic book history, since times of Calvin & Hobbes is Warren Ellis. ;)

I didn't get the chance to read much past the moment when He-Man regains his memory. Until then, I was surprised to see the old story retold in such a modern and entertaining way.

Hmmm, perhaps it's time to visit my buddy in UK, the one who spends the majority of his salary on comic books and Blade Runner accessories...

Crüesader

All I'm saying is every character better have "-OR" at the end of his name.  Even your AdministratOR, armed with a StaplOR.

I'm in the process of writing an adventure for Crimson Dragon Slayer with a name generator built like that (suffixes being -OR or -MAN). Lots of fun.

I'm so fucking late on delivering a completed 2nd draft to Venger though (it will be a year next month). It's going to be called Conquerors of the Cosmos and it also has hints of Thundarr and Sectaurs.

I'm trying to do this very thing now....I want to do a more adult version of Masters of the Universe and am currently trying to decide between Cartoon Action Hour Season 3 or Barbarians of Lemuria Mythic Edition.  I've been a BoL fanatic for many years now.

The only thing keeping me back on BoL for this is that I don't know how I'd do the careers as skills for He-Man characters.  Unlike normal sword & sorcery stories like Conan and Thongor, MotU characters don't necessarily have lots of careers they spent time in previously as adventurers.  These are essential to the mechanics as they act as your skills.  Anyone have any idea how to tool these for a MotU campaign?

What is possibly keeping me away from using CAH S3 is that I want a more adult version of MotU and am not trying to make it feel exactly like an 80's cartoon, just like a poster earlier in this thread.  The pic below gives an idea of the aesthetic I'm going for.

What? No Visionaries? :(

I knew there was a second fan of Visionaries somewhere out there, hello brother!

May the light shine forever!

Then don't use CAH. I'm evangelical about the system, but it's designed to emulate something specific, and there's not a drop of edge in the DNA.
I'm a middle aged guy with a lot of free time, looking for similar, to form a group for regular gaming. You should be chill, non-woke, and have time on your hands.

Any suggestions out there for how to adjust/tweak the careers in Barbarians of Lemuria Mythic Edition to fit He-Man? The MotU characters didn't necessarily have previous careers they spent time in prior to becoming adventurers and this mechanic is essential to the game since these act as your skills.

Can Cartoon Action Hour Season 3 do a harder-edged/more adult MotU?
