Quote from: Korgul;845530By the way, I read about the author of a game called "sorcery and supersience" (and roughly inspired by Thundarr) working on a second edition based on faserip. I once read a copy of the quickstarter of the game, and find it somehow inspiring, but if suffered from really wonky mechanics. A faserip edition it's something I'd play.

Speaking of Faserip, I think it could do Master of the universe much better than many other suggestion.  With the characters being do-gooders or evil henchman, defined more than thei peculiar powers than by skill or career, and with nobody ever killing anybody, I see a system written to support comic superhero more fitting than a ruleset concieved for S&S (as BoL).

FAESRIP would be me go-to, but then its always my go-to.

I'd be tempted to redo the stat list though to
Brawn Finesse Courage Awareness Knowledge and Empathy

How very fitting.

Masters of the Universe is fundamentally a superheroic fantasy/sci-fi setting, so superhero games are the natural fit. (Heroic Worlds categorized the FASA game under its "Comic-Book Superheroes" section, so that may influence my thinking.) As I've mentioned, I've been thinking about how to do this for about twenty-five years, and nearly every system I've given serious consideration for the task has been a superhero or superhero-friendly system--HERO, Marvel SAGA, BESM/Tri-Stat, M&M, Savage Worlds. The only reason I haven't considered FASERIP is because I never got invested in it. :)

Of course, there have been multiple incarnations of MotU, so the version you're going for will influence your choice of tools. FASERIP, from what I picked up when reading The Marvel-File in DRAGON, seems like it'd be best suited to a Filmation or near-Filmation feel. If you want the motion picture or the DC comics (either vintage or current), Savage Worlds may work better. And if you really want to model the characters with high precision, then you go HERO. :)

Moracai

I'd probably go with either Risus or Open Versatile Anime. Both are capable of supporting an enormous catering of different types of characters and powerlevels.

Kuroth

I'm one of the ones that instantly thought superhero game.  I don't really care for point buy.  So, Marvel Super Heroes (the original version without the 'advanced' set) or maybe Villains and Vigilantes, just cause I would enjoy using that for it. Not really that keen on superhero games normally.  So, using these little used old ones would work well for me as the ref.  Kind of always wanted to run a powerhouse fantasy game with Marvel, really.

The idea that your character is a little kid acting out while playing with an action figure of a MotU character is inspired.

Thanks! I'm a firm believer that there's still a lot of innovation to be had in rpg design. (Really I just wanted to emulate the source material well.)

Now on Crowdfundr: "SOLO MARTIAL BLUES" is a single-player martial arts TTRPG at https://fnd.us/solo-martial-blues?ref=sh_dCLT6b

Nexus

I'd go with Hero System/Champions but I think almost any good supers system could handle it like M and M 3e.

My Exalted games tend to run like an R rated MoTU but I can't reccomend the system.

I hadn't head of "Under a Broken Moon" before. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll have to check it out.

Thundarr and Master of the Universe has always two settings that I've wonder no has made an official rpg for them... The nostalgia value for so many gamers alone would seem to promise a decent audience.

This thread reminded me of the last time in my life I saw anything related to He-man, and I can't help but post it here

(For those scared of blind links it just goes to a short Youtube video of HeMan singing a very special song)

I'll take a look at both Villains & Vigilantes and Mutants & Masterminds 3E.  Thanks for the suggestions, y'all.

Endless Flight

Mutants & Masterminds 2e/3e is actually a good choice for this type of game. I was in a play-by-post game set in Eternia using legacy characters and it was a good fit.

By the power of Skeletor, Hordak and King Hiss, ARISE from your tomb, o ancient thread!  :)

Some new releases have been announced over the past year that may be useful to those who want to run a game, or who are just fans of the material:

He-Man and She-Ra: A Complete Guide to the Classic Animated Adventures--a 500-page guide to every episode of the series, written by a fan who's been studying and critiquing the Filmation series for over 20 years. This is essentially 200 adventure outlines ready to go. :) Releasing at the end of August.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Newspaper Strips--a collection of what may be the most obscure telling of the mythos. Even I've never seen more than some scanned samples of these. :)

And just announced this past week for a release in May 2017, an 'Encyclopedia'/Character and Location Guide that looks like it's going to cover every version of the series, from the original mini-comics to 200X.

And if you need background music, you can still get some copies of the limited edition cartoon soundtrack. :)

Whatta coincidence!

Been reading He-Man comic book lately, the one where He-Man loses his memory and thinks himself a mere woodsman. At first I treated it merely as just another reboot, an attempt to milk a dying cow (or whatever is the proper expression for that), but then I thought to myself that it's actually quite great story, and could work well as RPG scenario.

Perhaps it's time to think about it more?

...and I friggin' already abandoned my initial plans to write a scenario for KULT RPG and focus on WH40k instead... Oh great.

Guys, I think I may have a problem with managing money. I just dropped two bills on He-Man comics.
