This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

gurps reviews on the purple toilet?

I looked for reviews of the last two gurps releases on the purple toilet and didn't see them for the new ed of biotech or ultratech.

I was wondering why? I know when Space and GT ISW was released some people gave them reviews that were less than 100% complimentary and that some of jackson's jackoffs (His fhanboys) whined and moaned that anyone could ever say anything less than 100% supportive of a decision made by Lord Jackson Himself, so did the purple toilet stop printing reviews of gurps products simply to stop the    attacks on any review that dared to be honest with a gurps product?

(BTW, a major cause of less than perfectly complimentary reivews on the last 2 gurps products was a lack of gear. Jackson's Jackoffs responded with the by droning the rationale His Arrogance gave for the lack of such things. Well, the reviewers were aware of why the choice to leave gear out of the books was made, but they still called it a bad decision. In the real world, the internet, etc, people are allowed to disagree with Lord Jackson without being "trollquashed" for it. He doesn't run the world, thank God.)

The thing is that even the reviews that dinged the products for lacking gear were often very complimentary otherwise, and yet still the reviewers had shit thrown at them for daring to criticise the books for what they felt was a bad choice, rationale asides.

So has no one reviewed the latest gurps releases on the purple toilet or have they stopped printing reviews of gurps products?

Well, there was a thread about Ultratech over at RP Open a few weeks ago: I'm guessing that so far no one has simply gotten around to writing a review about the book. It's not as if RPGnet reviews haven't also included their share of hatchet jobs or fanboy adulation in the past, so I don't see why the site would make a special exception with GURPS.

Honestly, as far as Ultra Tech goes, I don't think many people have the book yet.  I know I sure don't.  As far as Bio Tech goes, it'd be a hard book to review.  Lots of nice Bio Tech goodies, upto and including spells for making Chimeras and costs and weights for cloning tanks.  It's information dense and bad looking, but it's not something I foresee ever coming up in actual play.

Fact is, I suspect they just wanted to make you buy another book to get medical hardware.

Steve Jackson, makes the choices he makes.  If you don't like that I suggest starting your own gaming company or buying from someone else.  I'm not a big fan of his, on an SJG forum thread he suggested I was likely to leap out at him with a knife.  I thought it was funny.  But I don't think he likes me very much.

Even so, it's his company and if he wants to churn out Munchkin and make GURPS inaccessible to new players that's his choice.

He's explaine that decision pretty thoroughly on the Munchkin side.

However, the wider trend in gaming, even at the Forge, is to market to the current base of roleplayers.  Someone new to the hobby is assumed to be introduced and thoroughly inducted by his/her friends, and brought up to speed.

I think this is wrong, but I can't do anything about it.

Anyone who wants to is welcome to submit GURPS reviews, I know I'd read them.

I'd review them if SJG wants to send me review copies, but I've never asked :)  Perhaps I should look into that.

I just got Ultratech last night. I'd love to review it, but it is gonna be hard to do. In order to do it real justice I have to crunch numbers, as we are talking a book only about gear. Is type of gear X really better than type of Gear Y at tech level Z?

It's not quite as simple as looking at charts or drooling over the cool toys, ya know.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

I flipped through Ultra-Tech at the FLGS last night...and I think it looks pretty.

Of course, I own GURPS Magic, so all their books look pretty after that one.

Nox: Who cares about reviews on rpg.net? You wanna talk about how they review things, go talk over there on one of you sockpuppets.

Maybe noone wants to start a flamewar with the SJG fan boys?

I take it they feel very strongly about their game of choice?

There are a core set of fans that attack anyone who says anything bad about GURPS. White-Wolf has the same thing going.

Koltar

...Well it could be maybe -  because  some of us don't think much of the "Big Purple & Pink".

I didn't even know I could do reviews over there...not that I'm interested or anything like that.
Just got my copy of GURPS:ULTRA-TECH yesterday , planning  to use parts of it Saturday with my TRAVELLER game.

Huh.  I've never had that experience, even with negative reviews of WW products.
