This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

In game campaign introductions.

I'm not a fan of handing out homework to players or pages of intro stuff that players need to read. I'd much rather work in backgroud of a campaign via the game itself. I've had some good luck with it and some bad.

In Episode 18 of Midnights lair, Luc, at about the 30minute mark, mentions a really cool way to introduce campaign backgroud to your players, run a oneshot game with pregens.

He doesn't mention exactly what they did, but I imagine it could be with NPC's that either are living legends or long dead heroes of myth. Or maybe pregens that are visitors to the places where the PCs will be from and/or play in. Or maybe even play the bad guys or future nemesis of the PCs.

How could this idea be improved or modified?

Any other neat in game tricks to intro your campaigns?

Any cool anecdotes of in game campaign intros?
