This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Grim getting targeted by RPGnet again.

It's like the old puritanism has split into two halves.

The Right puritans object to content - they're more traditionally worried about the idea that content is corrupting.
The left puritans object more to morals. (They're like the people that changed King Lear to have a happy ending because good should triumph and all that crap).  They think artistic expression should give the correct 'message'.

Razor 007

Quote from: GeekyBugle;1091276Have they denounced 50 shades and GoT yet? Nope, and never will because it's not about the principle (they have none) in that regard I have a bit more respect for the puritans on the right, they have a principle (a fucked one but still) and will censor everything that goes against it regardless of who wrote it.

For the woke it's about power and control, the power to rule over you and control even your thoughts. It's like the Yo pecador, you can sin by word, deed, omission and thought.

Sin by word: "offensive" jokes any one?
Sin by deed: Not hiring enough X
Sin by omission: Not denouncing the sinner
Sin by thought: Subconscious bias
Original sin: Being born white, straight and male

They don't call you degenerate or atheist or apostate, they call you istphobe, nazi.

I respect the conservative Christian right.  They believe in something, that has been written down on paper for thousands of years.

The chaotic left is just batshit crazy; and I simply cannot respect them, period.

Not all conservatives are puritans, and sure as f not all puritans are conservative.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

That's because Puritanism is a methodology and attitude about one's values, rather than a particular element of them.  You can be a Marxist Puritan or a monarchist Puritan, if in both cases you are unwilling to accept compromises or trade-off solutions; Puritanism is the attitude that all planks of your platform are equally important and indispensable, and that forgoing one or two of them in order to gain the rest is a tragic compromise at best and a venal evil at worst.

It is, to paraphrase the old saying, the conscious belief that the good is the enemy of the perfect.

Grim's a genuine contrarian in an era of fear and conformity.

Right wing Puritans tried to ban waltz, latter Rock&Roll, then comics, D&D, videogames, and now we have the left wing puritans trying to ban or change comics, movies, videogames, rpgs, music to fit their "personal values".

So from where I stand Puritanism is about some people trying to impose their subjective values on others by force if needed. Book Burners the lot of them, fuck them all.

Agreed. It's not a Right vs. Left thing. It's a Freedom vs. Tyranny thing.

SJWs are the new Church Ladies. Except these fucks can't bake. Say what you want about those crazy-ass D&D-hating evangelicals, but those little old bitties could kickass in a kitchen like mofos! Today's SJWs? Microwave tofu kale chips.

I stand corrected, but still, I bet the conservatives went along happily, and some still are talking about how video games make you violent. Who was the TV asshole that said you could learn how to hack a computer by playing watchdogs (I think)?

I have not comment on Grim or the fellow who GM'd but I will say the far left and the far right have been heading towards each other for several decades now.

Tipper Gore and Strom Thurmond crossed the aisle to give us Parental Advisory stickers on music and that was their failure. What they wanted was much more.

We need a modern Mother.  Something that is successful and criticizes the bullshit.

I'm pretty much to the point, where criticism by RPG.net "Guarantees a person or product is just fine".

It either involves:
A Christian.
A Heterosexual.
A Man who Complimented a Woman.
A Man who asked a Woman for a Date.
A Person who Doesn't Celebrate LGBTQ+.
A Person who Doesn't Like Story Games.
A Person who is a Fan of Gary Gygax D&D.
A Person who Likes the OSR.
A Conservative.
A Republican.
A Trump Voter.
Etc.

Their PMRC wanted US gov't censorship of music. It was insane.

However, the Parental Advisory label was a hit with teens. It automatically screamed BUY ME NOW!!

If memory serves, the Parental Advisory was added by the industry to avoid having government regulate them. It was voluntary to avoid involuntary labeling and censorship.
