This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

That's easy, check out RuneQuest Essentials.

Then imagine it set in Glorantha.

RQ6 is pretty cool and I've been warming to it since I picked up Monster Island and Luther Arkwright... played in a few session of it online.
I've little/no interest in Glorantha though... so I'm probably going to give that a miss... and hope in vain that the BRP Essentials book doesn't retcon in the changes from CoC 7e.

It would be nice if Chaosium just came out with it an said what BRP Essentials is going to be based on.

I like Glorantha and I think hardwiring it back into Runequest is a mistake.

I started with RQ2 (not the Mongoose thing) and that was just the right amount of Glorantha for me, a bit of setting that we could ignore (kinda like Meeros in the current RQ6 book). I liked bits of it, the creatures and cults... but never sought out more. I was always more interested in making up my own settings... but maybe that's not so popular these days?

It is not. It's also tied to HeroQuest. No biggie.

Also, I'm sad for Ben. He's a great guy, and I wish him the best.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

I'm no expert, however, I believe Glorantha is tied into HeroQuest Glorantha but not HeroQuest Core Rules: http://www.glorantha.com/product-category/rule-systems/

Which makes it doubly odd that there will be a Glorantha RQ but not a Core RQ.

Anyway, there are clearly multiple issues going on behind the scenes which we are unlikely to ever know the details of, so all we can do now is wait and see what Chaosium actually publishes.

Damn. What a cool guy. I imagine he could continue to freelance for them. After all he's a proliferate writer on BRP. I imagine he could finagle a license pretty easily as well and start his own company. :-)

Ben - sorry about your job, but I sincerely hope you parlay this into something even greater!

I think Glorantha, like other great settings, is a no-sell for quite a few people who were taken with MRQII and RQ6. But I suppose we'll agree to disagree.

I could never really 'get' Glorantha... it seemed like an amalgam of cool stuff that didn't gel into a big picture for me.
I like Ducks, Dragonnewts, Broo... Jack o' Bears... but not all on the same plate and in a game that otherwise seemed to be fairly straight... rather than 'gonzo'. Maybe I just didn't read closely enough...
Tekumel and Jorune made a lot more sense to me.

For those who were in at the genesis of RQ6, the discussion of whether to have Glorantha in the book or not was quite animated (but not heated). Those of us in the "not" camp were very happy with Loz and Pete's decision to keep the book setting neutral. This reversal by Chaosium is bound to stir up the same sentiments on both sides, especially as the announcement was made out of the blue without the friendly public consultation process that preceded RQ6.

I think you just 'got' it right there. ;)

I used to like Glorantha in the RQ2 days, though not particularly more than other settings and less than some. Back then it was small, fathomable, and it didn't take itself too seriously. I never liked ducks, though.

TheShadow

Ducks have always been the "dying in character creation" canard (pun intended) of Glorantha. Non-essential and easily ignored. But still their existence seems to be offensive to some people to the point of dismissing the game.
You can shake your fists at the sky. You can do a rain dance. You can ignore the clouds completely. But none of them move the clouds.
