This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Charlemagne stuff would be brilliant!

The Charlemagne variant (which is being done by other people and published by Nocturnal, AFAIK) was discussed here just a few months ago.

Quote from: Akrasia;846949A Mythic Greece was planned by the DM for RQ6.  As far as I know, it's still on the agenda, though perhaps delayed somewhat given the need to produce RQ:G.

I *remember* now! On the list after Mythic Britain. It does seem a better fit.

Ah, if Roderick Robertson is doing it and it's imminent that why quibble?
It'll rock.
I'll probably even buy it!

So it's a month since GenCon. Any news worth noting about the goings on at NeoChaosium?

According to newsletter I got this AM, Cthulhu Dark Ages has been updated to 7e, and 7e is finally going to the printers. Not that I care. I like d20CoC just fine.
And something about Orient Express.
Fuck Cthulhu with a chainsaw!

Greek Myth would be a better fit for RuneQuest IMO.
Chalemagne Pendaragon has been being tossed about for decades as has Samurai Japan for KAP. I would buy both in a heartbeat.

I need to sell some organs to finance upgrading my Nocturnal KAP supplements to the current versions.

Personally I would like to see more for Magic World. Storm bringer was my favorite incarnation of BRP fantasy.  RQ has too many rules now.

Did I mention I don't really care about Cash Cow of Cthulhu?

Yeah, so far they've by and large been true to their word when it comes to focusing on getting the Kickstarters sorted out, whilst at the same time putting out some nice things on the side (like the Cthulhu Dark Ages update).

They're preparing to ship out the final outstanding rewards from the Orient Express Kickstarter (some special carrying cases), and they've had to reformat the source documents for CoC 7E in order to make the hardcovers print right because for some reason the previous team had formatted it to the wrong page size. They are hoping to have the main 7E rewards printed up by Halloween and arriving with backers by the end of the year.

As a Kickstarter backer I've found that they've been much more communicative and honest than before Greg and Sandy stepped in. I listened to the podcast Greg and the Moon Design guys put out around the time of Gen Con to explain the changes and I've seen Sandy's comments and one thing I did notice is that they do tend to skirt around the issue of what precisely prompted them to step in and take control away from Charlie Krank; I don't know when or if the full story will come out but it makes me feel that there is a story there to tell, just not one it'd be advisable for them to disclose to the world.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

I doubt that will ever be disclosed to the public. While I'd love to know the details, it's probably not something they could or would share. If Charlie were to sue them, though, then more might come out. As you note: not advisable to tell.

I expect MW to get dropped - I don't think it ever got a fair shake. Dark Ages 2nd edition took me by surprise in this mornings news.

I thought that Sandy was pretty clear in that podcast. Clearly there were financial shenanigans which may not have been criminal embezzlement but were unacceptable use of the Kickstarter funds.

Sure, plus the Kickstarter backers were told things that were simply not true. The big question mark here is whether Charlie was personally responsible for those goofs (maliciously or accidentally), or whether people did it under his watch in such a way that it became clear that Krank hadn't exercised good judgement and oversight. (It's particularly interesting from a gossip point of view that Krank's family members and their friends left Chaosium with him.)

I'm sure that Charlie's family employees would have found it embarassing at least to continue after he'd been relieved of his position so I don't know that anything other than that can be attributed to them leaving.

I caught wind of that regarding Ben but I was inclined to disbelieve. Too bad; I don't know the other guy but I hope they both bounce back.

And I'll say (not sure if I already expressed this) I really do think Ben was onto something with Magic World, the setting. And on top of that, I'm disappointed that BRP has been abandoned, apparently, as a vehicle for anything other than CoC.

Yeah, disappointment is certainly what I'm feeling about it.

I do hope it doesn't impact Ben to harshly.

Hang on, guys, let's look at this in context. They're talking about shutting down Chaosium's old warehouse (which is a smart move because they were stockpiling way too much old stock for way longer than was commercially sensible - the fact that the entire Nephilim line was available to buy during the recent clearance sale was absolutely crazy), and running that and their old front office was the capacity they'd hired Ben in. The statement says nothing about Ben as a game designer; presumably his Magic World stuff was done on a freelance basis.

They've made no immediate plans about Magic World, but on the moment they're on a mission to get Chaosium back on its feet commercially speaking, so concentrating on the big names - Cthulhu, Runequest, and Glorantha - is eminently sensible. Sad fact is that for the time being Magic World is a nice-to-have, not an essential, and Chaosium needs to get the essentials straight before it can do much else.
