This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Greg and Sandy back in charge of Chaosium

Not too surprising.

New edition of Runequest, though? It would be interesting if they could bridge the gap between BRP and what RQ has become so that it will be easier to pick & choose modular bits. Also I would love to get rid of those damn typographical ligatures! ;)

Based on people who were at the seminar "new edition" might be jumping the gun but there is new product coming. At the Design Mechanism they are going out of the way to reassure everyone that their investment in RQ6 hasn't been wasted.

The most interesting-looking suggestion I've seen making the rounds is that the Adventures In Glorantha supplement will be expanded to include character creation (arguably necessary for such a supplement anyway) and the trimmed-down essentials version of the RQ6 core rules, with the RQ6 core book remaining a setting-independent tome and "Runequest: Adventures In Glorantha" being a complete-in-one-book game-plus-setting in the style of RQ1/2.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

I wonder if the new version of RQ would just have the Gloranthan material intermixed into the rulebook?

I've heard from Lawrence Whitaker that Design Mechanism will be making an "official announcement" this afternoon or evening.  We should know what exactly is in store for RuneQuest 6 then.

That's cool.  I've had 2nd and 3rd editions of the game, but never played.  At any rate, it'd be pretty cool if they decided to go back to how 2nd edition was- short on page length.

But I want to know NOW!!!

I'm speculating we might have two core books: The aleady existing RQ 6 from TDM and Runequest: Glorantha from Chaosium. Moon Design currently has both Heroquest 2 and Heroquest: Glorantha as products, so it seems in line with their practices.

Over at the TDM forums Lawrence Whitaker has said that investment in RQ 6 will not be wasted, so any concerns about an actual new edition seem misplaced.

I'm just hoping this doesn't delay Adventures in Glorantha. It is finally in the home stretch.

Other than that, this really is awesome line-up of people to be overseeing Chaosium. Whether the transition brings some delays or not, I expect some great things in the future.

Given that AiG will probably need Glorantha-specific monster stats and character generation guidelines anyway, it probably wouldn't be that much of a stretch to just fold in the remaining rules.

Either way, Moon Design won't have made this decision in a sudden - this has probably been on the cards at least since Greg and Sandy took back control of Chaosium, with Moon Design waiting on seeing what Greg and Sandy make of Chaosium's financials before deciding to take the plunge, so I'm sure the AiG team have been keeping an eye on this possibility.

Jesus, how many editions of RQ do we need?

Glad i haven't plonked down the rather steep money required for the RQ 6 stuff.

As many as D&D/D20?

I skipped RQ6 as well because of rules bloat.  I like a nice clean d100 implementation set in iconic part of Glorantha like Prax or Griffin Mountain.  I'm not sure what Chaosium should do in terms of products for RQ though as my interest isn't really in buying new books just for its own sake.

RQ6 is the opposite of bloat, highly recommend checking out RQ Essentials which is a free download, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Thus spake Loz:

QuoteThe new RQ will be RQ6 set in Glorantha just as RQ2 was. Same system, different emphasis, firm setting. Sorry, but it won't be Magic World based.

So not really a new edition.

Yeah, I guess it's worth keeping in mind that some dude's Twitter commentary on a presentation might blow some of these things out of proportion.

RQ6 isn't bloated with rules. It's very big because it's complete and Pete N likes complete tomes.

The rules are modular and in truth you should run it with the core character gen, skills, combat and 1 or 2 of the multiple magic systems.

This is clearly demonstrated by how easy RQ Essentials is to play.

I am pleased if we are not getting RQ7 but RQ6 in Glorantha.

I think Magic World is dead.
