Longtime lurker, new poster.
Started playing DND in the early 80's. Stopped mid-way through 2E. Played some WHFRP 1E, Harn, WEG D6 Star Wars, bunch of home-brew stuff. Loved the Rules Cyclopedia. I'm enjoying DND 5E and really enjoying AiME.
From what I have seen, this is the place to dump my bag of dice on the table, grab my pencil, and get ready to relax.
Okay, and that sounds fucking pervy.
Oh well.
Cheers everyone!

Thank you for the welcome.
Welcome , just make sure you leave your feelings at the door. Eventually you'll be on the wrong side of a discussion and they will be tested!
Welcome to the adult swim.

Quit playing with your pencil at mine and we'll call an uneasy truce that neither of us will honor, because you can't leave your pencil alone and I love dropping my sack on everyone's table.

Thank you, noted. If I do get offended I'll make sure to whine and cry about it and demand that the world meets my emotional needs and protects me from the big bad meany.

Welcome to the madhouse! Kick your feet up and enjoy yourself.

Adventures in Middle-earth. It's the D&D 5e version of The One Ring RPG. It's a pretty good take on Tolkien and I like it a lot more than vanilla D&D, so I can't wait for more supplements to come out.
Yo. :)

Weirdo. You'll fit in fine.

Just remember your favorite game suxxors, unless its my favorite game, but in that case, you're playing it wrong!

You sure? I turn on a dime for example. Well it's your funeral. Welcome to The Adult Swim. Otherwise as Spinachcat said whatever game you love sucks and IF it's something I like you're definitely playing it wrong. If you like 5e we might get along...(shhh...don't tell anybody that though.:)).
Hi new person! Welcome to theRPGSite! :) We're nice and squishy on the inside once you breach our hard candy shells! :)
Welcome to wacky world.
Heres your complimentary WWII helmet. Hope you survive the shelling.
What prompred the stop of playing 2e?
I have the original WHFRP. Pretty interesting approach it had.
5e is alot of fun to DM and play in. Even with its occasional flaws. (Ranger, Grappeling Short Rests, bit too Demon-happy)

The One Ring was the one with the funky d12 and d6 dice pools, right?
Does the 5E version keep the positioning/initiative mechanic? I actually liked that one.

Yeah, I'm really digging 5E, brought me back to DND honestly. 2E was just getting a little too rules-heavy for my taste. Options are cool, but by the same token can be restrictive as well.

Easy there, tiger. "Playing with people's pencils" and "dropping ones sack" all over the place usually demands some wine-and-dining first. We're gentlemen around here.
Welcome btw!

Thanks for the welcome. Is Mad Dog 2020 ok? Or are we refined around here? I have some home-made watermelon wine (I didn't make it, a friend with talent did).
I make some damn good spaghetti if that is good enough for dinner.
Marley, Opa, Spinach, Baer, and anyone I missed, thanks for the welcome!

Yep, it uses a pool of d6 plus a d12, which can either save your ass or completely screw you over if you get the eye of Sauron symbol (11) on it.

No, AiMe plays with normal 5e combat rules. I expect using some form of TOR's combat system would have required a serious overhaul of the classes that were used.

But thats all they are. Options. Use or dont. No different from having lots and lots of issues of Dragon (Which I do).

Welcome.
If you had stayed around to the end of 2e you would have been treated to such tomes as "The Complete Book of Slaad Bards, Vol. 2". Feeling pretty foolish now aren't ya?
Hopefully you will stick around here longer and learn not to make such poor decisions.
Now get in the pit and try to love someone....
Signed,

Yep, absolutely. Just didn't like the feel. Completely subjective on my part. I also didn't care for 3-4. Not badwrongfun, just not my fun. I am a big fan of good ol' becmi and rc.

Thats ok. I just didnt like the feel of some of the expansion books. They felt somehow lacking in vitality.

I wasn't old enough to try anything older then 1e. And 2e just made way more sense to me. Now do you have a clue why I prefer 5e?. I like old school as a concept but hate it in practice unless it's held to a certain point. I'd kill to try RC but not BCMI. I like at-will attack cantrips, I like that only a pure fighter gets 3-4 attacks, I like that wizards aren't useless and have "The Hammer". If only they would have the balls to bring back race as class then I would be in hog heaven but I understand my preference is the minority.
Marleycat, RC is BECMI. I also dig race as class for some reason. I played 1e, you didn't miss anything. Most people ignored approx. 40 percent of the 1e rules to make it playable. Then some bitched when 2e formalized everything they were already doing. The 1e modules did have some definite gems though.

I did say I'm not really old? No offense but when Star Wars came out I couldn't understand why my brother was trying to convince his sister some silly Sci-Fi movie was the Bomb. I thought he was insane and stupid as usual. I saw Star Wars like 7-8 years later and instantly knew why my brother was begging me to see it. I just know what I like even if it isn't the normal? 2e was great for gamer types that didn't play war games or actually know Gygax. I never knew they were the same game. All I knew was I could never get the money together to get the RC. I was into other games by then. But the book was pretty and so fun to read if a friend let me. And for some stupid reason I prefer Race as Class.

Tempted you asshole. Not yet but soon. Very soon.:)
I liked the initial stuff for 2e, but as stated elsewhere it just didn't have the right feel for me. RC is, in my opinion, a very well done compilation/expansion of becmi. I think part of the reason I like 5e so much is that, for me at least, it gives me a similar feel to RC. Race as class and THACO never bothered me one bit.
Marley, my guess is that since you like 5e, even though you're playing it wrong ;-), you would like RC. I do like the skill and weapon mastery rules from RC.

I dunno, that might send the wrong message, and I'm just not that type of dice-slinger. A little innocent prodding is one thing, but implied lewdness via cranial gesturing towards pencil proximity is a little far. Besides, he might think I'm game for the whole pee-hole thing he keeps talking about.

(gasp) I mean his PENCIL! The thing he writes with! I am shocked! Shocked, I say! :-) (yeah, you really gotta stay away from Gronan's pee-hole. Then again, that's pretty easy, because he's always shoving someone down there).:-D
Welcome!
He's just jealous that someone can pee in my pee hole without sticking anything in. If I chose.;)

It is? I guess you learn something new everyday. I really need to start reading other people's posts I'm so embarrassed I didn't see this hint a page ago. RC is where/why I prefer race as class. I prefer demihumans as de facto multiclassed and humans as single class characters. It just makes total sense to me.
Three people who like race as class. Crazy.

Make it at least four...
So, race-as-class lovers, how do you feel about ACKS-style racial classes? For those unfamiliar, the ACKS core book's classes include Dwarven Vaultguard, Dwarven Craftpriest, Elven Spellsword, and Elven Nightblade. Each of these is a unique class (e.g., a Dwarven Vaultguard is very similar to a standard (human) Fighter, but it's not just "Fighter with a Dwarf racial package tacked on") and has its own unique flavor, but doesn't go to the extreme of saying that all dwarves have the same set of abilities. Personally, this seems to me like the best of both worlds, better than either race-as-class or race-plus-class.
The only real issue to me is demihuman clerics. Why no dwarf clerics? That elves are so tuned into magic that they are warrior wizards makes sense to me. Halflings should be more thiefy that figher too I think.
I ran an B/X campaign once where I made Dwarves into Fighter/Clerics as the counterpoint to Elves as Fighter/Mages. It worked just fine, but the players weren't sold on it since the dwarf media stereotype is pretty strong with many players.
I prefer Race as Class, but even moreso, the idea that Races have their own Classes.
Otherwise, it seems too rubber suit to me.

I like them also. But like Voros I just don't get the no dwarves as clerics. They are the textbook Invoker for godsake's. And should have a class choice of Fighter/Cleric as baseline like elves being Fighter/Mages. Long lived species make more sense as multi-classed basic or other racial only and specific classes. I live 500-2000 years shut up and deal with the fact I have access to options that mix/match basic options that give interesting options at the cost of being more powerful in that singular option. Or have race variants of those basic choices to focus in if I chose.
