Hi all,
I've just started running this. We kicked off at the start of Uther's reign and have had two sessions so far ending with the battle of Mearhead Creek (in which a PC died).
The individual scenarios in the campaign seem mostly to be combat encounters. I've been expanding them with roleplay opportunities and additional details, treating them more as a framework to build on than exhaustively detailed adventures.
Is that what others have done? Who else here has run it? Any tips?
Thanks :-)
I think its great that you're running this. There's more roleplay-type scenarios in the later years of the GPC.
In any case, what I did when I ran it (and we ran the GPC in its entirety, the whole thing), is that you start out each year with the Court. That's where things like news, intrigue, etc. happens, and where you will do a lot of non-combat roleplay. Then find out what your PCs are doing in the summer months, incorporating any events or battles that year into that activity.
Also, read the entire GPC at least once, and at the start of each new "Period" read the entire chapter on that period again (including the adventures at the end of the chapter, which you should use and plan out in what year you want to use them ahead of time). Before each adventure starts, read the individual year's entry for a third time.
This is important so that you don't mess up on some historical point due to confusion.

I did not run it. YET. But I got the book. And will run this. Sooner or later. :)

That's one totally fine way to do it.
Thanks. I was a bit concerned as the first week was much more interesting than the second. With hindsight though I realised I hadn't prepped adequately the second week (which could happen with any game) and that I wasn't yet familiar with the battle rules. In combination that hit pacing adversely which shouldn't recur.
Pundy, how did you justify the characters being at court? Shouldn't they be with Earl Roderick at his court? What are they doing at the King's?
Here's the campaign wiki so far, for the curious: https://sites.google.com/site/pendragoncampaign/
In the Uther Period, I'd have the Earl attend the king's court whenever I wanted to play out the court period. In the Anarchy period, of course, everything that mattered was happening in the local ("countess'") court; and after that, Arthur strongly encouraged knights to attend his court and swear fealty to him as Liege Lord directly.
Usually, I had it happen that the spring court was done at the king's and then a smaller Christmas court took place at the Earl's.
