Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So yesterday Zach's wife, Katie, posted that Zach passed away on Monday night. Zach was an RPG writer who focused on solo gaming. His books include BOLD (the Book of Legendary Deeds) and UNE (the Universal NPC Emulator), plus more.

Zach fought esophageal cancer for a long time, even though he knew it was terminal. Back in August he went into hospice care and toughed it out for two whole months before succumbing. You might remember the Zach Best Family Benefit Bundle from August. Many, many publishers and gamers turned out to support the Bests.

For 10 bucks you paid for Zach's Book, a title with Zach set up to receive all of the sales (minus drivethru's commission), and you got something like 250 bucks worth of games in return. As a community you propelled Zach's Book to the number 2 spot on the charts and lifted his spirit. Zach really appreciated the support.

The bundle only lasted for a week, but Zach's book remains up for sale, and will indefinitely, as a pay-what-you-want title. Anyone who wants to donate to the family can do so in whatever amount you choose, by picking up Zach's Book here. Zach's titles were all published under the name Conjecture Games, and they are quite good. You can buy them, too.

Thanks again for all the support.

I didn't remember the name but I own UNE (Universal NPC Emulator). It was useful for personalizing some of the NPCs in my Honor+Intrigue campaign.

Condolences to all who knew him.

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.
