How do,

As the title suggests. :) Basically, I'm looking for a Gothic style horror adventure. One that isn't just a dungeon crawl.

Something with a good mystery and a lot of atmosphere.

Preferably OSR mechanics, but I don't mind converting them from another system if the scenario is good enough.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you want pure Gothic, straight and uncut, look up Daniel James Hanley's stuff on DTRPG.

If you want D&D mixed with Gothic, the old 2nd Edition Ravenloft stuff has some gems. Feast of Goblyns, The Evil Eye, Neither Man Nor Beast and Bleak House come to mind.

White Dwarf - Terror at Trollmarsh was one I loved.

I have Tales of the Grotesque and Dungeonesque in PDF. Here's a sample, which will probably tell you if it's what you're looking for:

QuoteGothic literature is filthy with the following generic conventions: an imperiled heroine whose life and/or virginity is often at stake, a Catholic setting (generally either Spain or Italy in the early Gothic novels); a focus on terror (psychological fear) or horror (disgust) or both as affect; a long-buried secret from the past that can no longer be repressed; monstrosity (whether human or inhuman) or villainy (often a patriarchal figure of power); violence and sexuality that passes beyond the border of the socially acceptable; incest; doubling (doppelgangers, mistaken identities, etc.); a decrepit castle, monastery, fortress, dungeon, or other medieval structure as part of the setting; the Inquisition and the misuse of religious authority; specters, ghosts, or phantasmal visions (remnants of the past that cannot be repressed); mysterious veiled women; fragmentary narratives (framed narrative, missing text, etc.); enclosure, premature burial, and imprisonment.

The Tombs of Geseridi from The Palladium Fantasy Roleplaying Game and Castle Amber from Expert Dungeons & Dragons might work.  Both feature a location full of powerful and colorful npcs who the pcs can't really hope to fight and need to interact with and play against each other.  it's a trilogy of novels but Gormenghast might work, it's a castle full of quirky people but the only monsters are the Countess, Swelter, and Steerpike.

Actually, they did make a pdf of a bunch of WDs - but had to withdraw it as they didn't the rights to the artwork. There might still be a few CDs out there - but they're probably very expensive these days ...

In terms of gothic horror ... there's always I10 (Ravenloft 2) which is far less dungeon-crawly than the original.
