Title: Good D&D Blogs
Post by: mAcular Chaotic on December 27, 2016, 10:17:59 AM
Every now and then I come across a blog that's a good read: either from people on this very site, or someone like the Angry GM, or as part of a bigger website.

The ones that are just one dude writing on a blog are interesting to me since they offer hidden nuggets of wisdom that you can't always find elsewhere.

What are some D&D blogs you know? Let's put them all down here.

For instance, I just started checking out Really Bad Eggs (http://black-vulmea.blogspot.com/) which is by a forum member Black Vulmea.

http://thealexandrian.net/ I really liked his adventure structure(s) posts. Especially the three clue rule, and node structures. The Stuff on open table gaming is also interesting.

http://theangrygm.com/ A lot of peoples here haven't had the most positive reactions when I repost Angry's blog stuff, but I like it. I really like his ongoing Megadungeon series.

http://www.gnomestew.com/ I don't check Gnome Stew as often as the previous two. But it's got some good stuff. Lots of articles, but the Top 30 is a good place to start.

//www.tenkarstavern.com - I like Erik Tenkar's blog. He covers a lot of OSR stuff (which counts as D&D).
halflingsluck.blogspot.com- James Sphan's blog. He writes a lot of OSR/S&W White box stuff that can be fitted to most D&D editions (not sure about 4E)

I used to really like the angry GM but his sthick wore thin on me and his "mega dungeon" really wasn't what I want (set piece....set piece....set piece) so I've stopped being a regular reader.

Awesome. The more easily overlooked blogs are the ones I find interesting. Grognardia was great when I found it; marathoned through the entire site's content in a few days.

Our own Estar has Bat in the Attic (http://batintheattic.blogspot.com/), which has some excellent posts, especially the ones on making Fantasy and Traveller sandboxes from scratch.

Another vote for The Alexandrian. Really great article concerning the aforementioned nodes.

There's a nice list (http://www.batintheattic.com/oldschoolsurvey.htm) from Bat in the Attic here, though I can't vouch for quality or whether many of these are currently updated.

Some of the discussions here provide a great deal of useful information, if you can fly your Liberator through the chaff.:-)

Jeff's Gameblog (http://jrients.blogspot.com.br) is my perennial favorite — hell, the recent LotFP module Broodmother Skyfortress actually compiles many of Jeff's best blog entries as a "GM advice" chapter.

Also a fan of The Alexandrian, Bat in the Attic and Really Bad Eggs.

Thanks for the name check, but I'd be hard-pressed to call either of my bogs 'D&D blogs.' "Really Bad Eggs" (http://black-vulmea.blogspot.com/) is about swashbuckling roleplaying games generally with special attention paid to Flashing Blades, while "Promise City" (https://promisecity.blogspot.com/) is pretty specifically about Boot Hill and our campaign.

Besides the ones already mentioned in this thread, I digg these as well
From the Sorcerers Skull (http://sorcerersskull.blogspot.com/)

Halflings Luck (http://halflingsluck.blogspot.com/)
Tales of the Grotesque and Dungeonesque (http://talesofthegrotesqueanddungeonesque.blogspot.com/)

Aside from what's been mentioned:

http://pitsperilous.blogspot.com/
http://hackslashmaster.blogspot.com/
http://www.trollishdelver.com/
http://the-disoriented-ranger.blogspot.com/
http://www.creightonbroadhurst.com/
http://www.ultanya.com/
http://falsemachine.blogspot.com/
http://swordsandstitchery.blogspot.com/
http://gamersandgrognards.blogspot.com/
http://3toadstools.blogspot.com/
http://ynasmidgard.blogspot.com/
http://akraticwizardry.blogspot.com/
https://clawcarver.wordpress.com/
http://henchmanabuse.blogspot.com/
https://nonlineardungeon.wordpress.com/
http://forrestaguirre.blogspot.com/
http://zenopusarchives.blogspot.com/
http://initiativeone.blogspot.com/
https://smolderingwizard.com/
http://gothridgemanor.blogspot.com/

And yeah, I follow Tenkar and the Angry GM and Halfling's Luck and Goblin Punch as well.  I realize this seems like a lot of blogs, but once you've got a reader set to alert you to posts, it's actually pretty easy to keep up with.  And certainly better content than hoping for a good discussion here or G+ or the purple place.

Alpha is a SERIOUS shill for WOTC. It makes it impossible for me to take seriously ANYTHING he says.

I write a little one, since 2009, with a break for some major insanity. I went from posting every day to every other day. Link below.

I have, but there are always blogs that you miss along the way.

Plus you get the recommendation/thoughts of someone who already read the blog.
