Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). For anyone who is interested, I wrote up a scenario that I generated randomly using the Court and Ruin generators. It should make for a good campaign starter or one off scenario.

I was very pleased with how appropriately Godbound/Exalted it feels :)

The more I think about it, I would love a Kevin Crawford written generic fantasy RPG. I'm not too keen on the Red Tide setting (it's okay, just not my cup of tea.) But the core elements of Godbound for mortal heroes, thrown in with the Scarlet Heroes rules makes me think a low powered fantasy game using his rules would be awesome. I love his 'facts' allowing the player to buy magic, combat skills, etc.

Hell, I'd kill for a generic fantasy setting random world gen book by him.

How many facts does a mortal hero get?

The tentative setup right now is that they get the normal three facts, with the ability to spend their "profession" fact on a special ability package, plus one more to buy special abilities or use as a normal Fact. There are basically two tiers for mortal PCs:

Common Mortals work exactly like NPC mortals. They start with 1 HD, for when a DCC funnel is too softcore for the group. They can spend their facts to get special abilities and magic appropriate to a Fantasy Fucking Vietnam experience. Campaigns involving Common Mortals are for groups who want things to be horribly desperate on a regular basis.

Heroes are special mortals with the seeds of something greater in them. They work much like common mortals, but they get 4 hit points instead of 1 HD, and 2 more HP each time they gain a level. They can also spend their facts on more impressive powers and special abilities. They're still mortals, but a group of heroes can actually make a novice Godbound sweat, and a party of high-level heroes can be a significant threat to an experienced Godbound.
Other Dust, a standalone post-apocalyptic companion game to Stars Without Number.
Stars Without Number, a free retro-inspired sci-fi game of interstellar adventure.
Red Tide, a Labyrinth Lord-compatible sandbox toolkit and campaign setting

Finally gave the beta a cursory read.

The basic concept of the Godbound sounds a lot like the Defiant faction from Rift: Planes of Telara, so I already like it right upfront.

I am really looking forward both to the opportunity to test the default setting, and for the Exalted conversion notes.

I'm loving the sound of that! I'm not kidding Kevin, if you do a generic fantasy book using your version of OSR, I'd be all over it. At least a series of toolkits to upgrade any existing game universes.

How well could an unarmed martial artist Godbound perform?
Remember when Illinois Nazis where a joke in the Blue Brothers movie?

Democracy, meh? (538)

"The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn't even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it."

Take a Gift that replaces your damage dice for a d10, such as Fists of Black Iron or Steel Without End, and you will be as good as any melee weapon wielder. Might or Sword Words work as well to unarmed as armed.

We haven't seen the Strifes (divine martial arts) yet.

It's a tempting thing to consider. I'll probably give it more thought after the ideas I've roughed out in Godbound get some more time to simmer.

Just fine, really. They pick three Words like anybody else, but'd probably spend 4 of their initial gift points mastering one of the True Strifes, all of which give their users an upgraded unarmed attack damage die. They'd still have 2 gift points left over to pick up a couple lesser gifts to supplement their punchiness or touch on non-combat abilities.

Well, whatever happens, I love the idea of using FACTS as a narrative excuse to buy powers. I could see a whole number of character options and modules built on that.

In other words I need to make Aslaugs more powerful, but fewer.  Those heroic mortals do sound badass.  Do they get a fact per level up like Godbound?

Sounds like a solar vs a group of dragon bloods on a wyld hunt.  Which is interesting.

Made the aslaugs more similar to heroes since if your married to a godbound you should be a heroic mortal.  While they are certainly more powerful they are also rarer.  A godbound is only limited to three and that is only a level 10 one at that.

Last I did a session tonight so I will do a report soon.

I like what I see on the beta rules. I'll definitely back this.

I hope to be able to gather a group to test it soon.
