While digging around looking for more stuff to add to my blog, I ran across an article concerning this machine. I can see it being used in numerous ways in a pulp or scifi style game

Interesting.
If you have not allready, have a glance at the Monowheel. Here is a clip from a newsreel circa 1935. But a pedal version dates back well before that.

Well, sir, there's nothin' on Earth like a genuine, bona-fide, electrified, six-spoke monowheel!

It even has a built-in Roll Cage.

emphasis on the roll part. That was the one problem that was hard to overcome. Due to its very structure, stopping was a precarious thing and stopping quickly at speed was potentially going to put the roll in roll cage. And one builder ended up in a pretty bad crash. Engineers though have not given up yet and last I had a glance, there were some ideas being implemented to counter the problem.
At low speeds, such as the monowheel velocipede and monowheel-bicycle, its less a danger.

I'm in favour of any machine with a sheath for a fully-equipped ocean liner.
The past is amazing sometimes. Actually, a lot of the time.
