This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ghouls (inspired by "Gil's All Fright Diner")

I just posted a quick review of this title, and since I had mentioned in the review that I had statted out the ghouls from the novel for my Savage Worlds game, I thought I would post them here.

Ghouls
Created through a long-forgotten magical rite, ghouls appear as decomposing human corpses with green skin, sharp teeth and long black nails. Although they may be mistaken for zombies at a distance, a superficial resemblance is all that ghouls and zombies share in common. Where zombies are slow, plodding killers, ghouls are fast, keenly intelligent and highly organized.

Ghouls possess two states of being. In conditions of low light or absolute darkness, ghouls are onlyEthereal and resistant to all physical attacks, except those made by other supernatural creatures or beings wielding magical weapons. They may still attack with their own claws, or even melee weapons. In the presence of direct light, artificial or natural, ghouls become vulnerable to any and all physical attacks.

Ghouls incapacitated will rise again the next night, unless their corpses are burned or exposed to sunlight for 3 rounds. Those slain by ghouls will not rise again as ghouls themselves.

Attributes: Agility d8 Smarts d6 Spirit D4 Strength d6 Vigor d6
Skills: Fighting d6 Intimidation d6 Notice d6

Special abilities:
Claws Str+1
Undead*
Ethereal (in low light or complete darkness)*
Fearless*

*as per Savage Worlds rulebook.

This would make a great creature for an Unknown Armies game!

Yep, I have a feeling that the incorporeal/corporeal transition mechanic would probably be a puzzle to some players...especially if you let the ghouls actively attempt to extinguish lights in their area.
In the book, they had the ability to blow out lights on their own. I didn't port it because I thought it was too powerful. It's your option, really.

Yeah, but I can just see all of my PC's carrying around flashlights for this very reason.

It would be a scary day in Midway!
