So, y'know, I thought..."Hey, wouldn't these ordinarily-mundane campaign ideas discussed in the 'Alternate RPG ideas' thread be made a little more palatable by setting them in the future of THS?"  

I mean, I don't wanna play a quarterback for the Colts, but...how about a brain-taped "ghost" of Peyton Manning in a genetically-engineered bioshell?  (Especially if he's an llegal ghost.)  An uplifted dog in a cybernetic body, doing rescue missions in the Alps -- or on Mars?  A heavily-modified vice cop in a 2100 update of Miami Vice?

Have I just hit on something...?

To be honest, whenever someone says (and it does come up from time to time) that anything you could run today you could run in THS I tend to think, well, why not run it in the modern day then?  It's a hell of a lot easier and the conflicts are more relevant to our lives.

I think that's one of the key problems with THS actually.  It's like now, but much harder to run a game in.

What's harder about than modern day (honest question)? Seems to me the future/near future stuff is a little easier to run just because the GM can be a little more fast and loose with the facts, especially about real world locations that the players may or may not be familiar with. I've never played or read THS though (I've wanted to for awhile, just haven't gotten around to it yet), so there may be things of which I am unaware.

THS is hugely detailed, a far more complex society than ours and has ubiquitious technologies many of which render traditional plots meaningless.

Everyone has wearable computer systems, see someone and you can instantly have a semi-ai do a profile of them based on all publicly available information online that relates to them, that alone changes a ton of stuff.

Criminy, I guess so. Instant public files on people off the top of my head would indeed suck. I imagine location info would be just as easy to access. Lotsa prep work, but if pulled off it sounds like it'd be fun. I get what you're sayin now though.

And that's just one example.  There's tons of technologies with just as far reaching implications, it's a cool setting but almost nobody succeeds in running games in it.   Phil Masters to be fair is addressing that, and has put a lot of thought into runnable campaigns, but he seems to be a lone voice on that front.
