This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The warning to stay on topic applies to everyone. Now this is a personal warning. You want to talk about politics, you can try your luck in the RPGPundit's subforum (if you say something that interests me), or do so on some other site. I'm glad you agree with me, but on the main forum we keep stuff on topic. In this case, the topic is Gencon, gaming, and the attack on Jeremy.

Never been to Gen Con.  Now don't think that I would care to go. Although it would be tempting to attend in a MAGA hat just for shits & giggles.

Once upon a time, I would have quite liked going to Gencon.  Now, the only reason I'd ever go is if someone paid my way to go there as a provocateur.

The con I'd still actually want to go to for the hobby would be Garycon.

I went to GenCon a few years ago, and it was overwhelming.  I enjoyed it, but was there to see all I could and not game as much or do events.  I remember there was a bit of rumbling politically, but not much, or at least I did not see it everywhere.

I think I possibly would go again (my kids would LOVE it) but I am on the fence given their sudden need to be extremely political.

My wife and I go every year now that we're close enough. It's not in-your-face SJW... unless you're looking for it to be. There's plenty of conservative and moderate gamers just doing their thing: gaming and shopping.

Yeah, but the panels and the guests of honor and the policy of Sanctioning Political Violence is all in-your-face SJW.

I wonder how GenCon's SJW panels actually went. If there were hundreds in worship of the SJW queen, you'd think we'd have been inundated with anecdotes, quotes and demands to fulfill the fruitcake's marching orders. And if peep had been heard, I'm 1000% sure it would have shown up on theRPGsite. As the only GenCon SJW news has been about the Assault, it makes me wonder if the much touted Guest of (dis)Honor only had a few dozen sycophants at her panels and nothing of note was said.

I have been to many cons over the decades, and I have never once gone to a panel or met a guest of honour. I go to game conventions to... game!

I realise this is strange and unusual and hopelessly reactionary. Also, I don't like collectors who don't game.

I've gone to GenCon maybe a dozen times and it can be a lot of fun. Used to be I could find booths stocked with older stuff that I'd never seen or heard of before and at decent prices, but those days are pretty much gone. Also, sometimes there are con-only things like the year I got a 7th Sea t-shirt, or the year that I bought the Dune RPG that got pulled so fast. I haven't gone in the past 5-6 years or so, but it was fun last time I went.

GaryCon was fun the last time I went, although the older guys have been telling me that Pathfinder and Adventurer's League is starting to creep in there.

This is still the most rational explanation.

As do I, but strangely there is no video.

I did however find a #Reddit thread with this gem in my search:

QuoteIt should be noted that the audience itself was limited to only 80 people (in a hall that could have fit 800). I was told this was due to security concerns. Apparently GenCon wanted to avoid angry mobs showing up to harass Anita. The very fact that they had to do that highlights the importance of what she and the others had to say.

So the lack of attendance wasn't because nobody cares, but to keep angry mobs from harassing her.

Roll.Eyes.

At this point I'm thoroughly convinced their problems are completely fabricated.

Motorskills

There's 70,000 people at Gen Con. Even finding where a seminar is being held is a challenge, let alone any individual seminar having an impact on the wider community.

I agree with the first part, but not the second. And on the first part, I can either give ground by not attending or I can continue to be a rational voice, even if it's a voice in the wilderness. I choose the latter with no condemnation of anyone who elects for the former.

From my perspective, having passed that room a few times when it was happening... it's more nobody cared. I don't even think 80 showed up, but I wasn't counting. The crowd wasn't big.

I'm going to guess that's why there was no video. I don't know that for certain, but it certainly fits.

Considering it was allmost 100% likely just Anita's usual screeching of "Everything is sexist! Everything is against women!" and how horrible and awful D&D is and how it neeeeeds to change so that women can be (more) equal (than men)! (Oh and some women are more equal than others.) and on and on trying to spread her venom to another well in need of poisoning more than it allready is.

I though disagree GenCon is rewarding Loter as they banned him too. Nor had they not. Then whooooeeee that could have very easily blown up in their faces. Now had this happened at say Pax they likely would have given poor Loter a medal.
