Hey Everyone,
GenCon On-Site Games on Demand is looking for in-person GMs to run games at GenCon 2021 in Indianapolis, IN from September 16-19, 2021. We need enough GMs to run 3 concurrent tables of games in the morning and afternoon of each day of the convention and would love to have you join us!
How Does Volunteering Work?
All games need to be 4 hour one-shot tabletop RPGs
We will also need help hosting the registration table.
We will make schedules work as best we can. The earlier you let us know the better.
We do our best to make sure everyone gets a table, but sometimes there won't be enough players for every GM to run a game in every slot they'd like.
Time is of the essence. We need to confirm the event with GenCon ASAP.
Thank you!
GenCon On-Site Games on Demand 2021
After GenCon banned TSR? Nah, I'll pass. Not an attack on you, for what it's worth.

Do we get to pick the gender and identity of each player at our table? What color of dice are allowed?
Best of luck, but I will not participate in a convention that participates in and facilitates hate mobs. I have no interest in this type of thing until GenCon cleans up their act.
I would rather eat broken glass than give GenCon a penny of my money.
Get woke, go broke.
I certainly understand the sentiment of not supporting GenCon. But, Games on Demand usually features smaller publishers who might be working on something you'd like. IF you're going to GenCon anyway, it's generally a good thing to support.
Hard no.
I live barely an hour away and I wouldn't attend them currently if they paid me to.
Plus GenCon would never let me through the door as I'm a straight white male who likes wearing red baseball caps with words on it that cause Wokists to have fits and seizures.
I've stopped giving money to people who hate me.
Now, if On-Site Games on Demand wanted to host its own convention in Indianapolis specifically free of the Wokist mobs and to bring attention to smaller publishers, THAT could be a different story entirely.
After GenCon's tacit approval of the assault on Jeremy Hambly, they would never get my participation or money.

*Laughing* Chris, you KNOW that's right, man. ;D
I imagine I wouldn't be welcome at all, especially wearing a bright red baseball cap with writing on it. ;D
Can you imagine the glares of the woke mob? The seething
Hate wanting to burst forth from them in a frenzy!?

Damn straight, Jeff! The way GenCon treated Jeremy Hambly--geesus. So disgusting, you know? Unconscionable. Can you imagine being at some other event, bar, or restaurant, being attacked by some goon, and being treated the way GenCon treated Hambly? It's mind-boggling.

I can easily visualize your red cap. I bet it resembles mine? I think I'll wear it from now on, anytime I roll dice and play RPGs. It can be my DM's hat, too!!! I'll wear my red hat, while I play D&D 5E and Pathfinder 1E. It will be great!!!
I could send pictures to WOTC and Paizo, so they can see how much i enjoy playing their games while wearing my red hat!!!
Fuck Gencon.
There was a time when I would have loved to attend GenCon. That time is long since past. I'm quite sure I wouldn't pass their purity test.
LOL.
There clearly needs to be Make Fantasy Great Again OSR RPG Con.

No need to limit it to just Fantasy. There's plenty of good non-woke rpg of numerous genres out there. Limiting it to JUST Fantasy or just OSR is just playing to the Woke divide-and-conquer strategy.
So open it up to all non-woke games/players and call it the "Make Adventuring Great Again Convention" or MAGACon for short. ;D

Whooo-eee. I feel sorry for you. You pretty much stuck your arm in an angry hornets nest as Gen-Con higher ups have been... special... lately... Again. And its rather eroded any good will towards the con.
I would not attend Gencon if you paid me too. I went in 2016 and I enjoyed it. I was there mostly buying and sight seeing, and trying out a few board games with preview tables. However, that particular organization has taken stances that say they hate me. I wanted at the time, to come back in a few years once my kids were old enough to go and enjoy it. No way in hell would I go now.
As for game mastering at that Con...I would rather be a cop in the worse neighborhood in detroit. Fewer landmines to trip over regarding getting outraged mobbed.
Since I had zero interest in going to GenCon before it was taken over by the current crowd, it is difficult to express just how far into "negative interest" territory it has now gone. Let's just say we left "Wouldn't go if they paid me" behind in the review mirror some time ago, with the acceleration increasing.

Luckily I have thick skin. I like playing good games with interesting people. The rest of the drama doesn't bother me.

I do not see where the thick skin matters at all. No one seems to be attacking you. You just get to see the buzzing.

You're correct. I was just skimming the temp but the replies are all aiming any ire at Gencon, not me. I should have just said:

Since people of every persuasion (here and multiple other places) are telling me there is no interest for in-person GoD, this will get tabled for a year.

If only it were just drama. People have been threatened, and in at least two cases now, physically attacked just attending GenCon. Used to be the only thing had to worry about were grifters pretending to be bikers with damaged bikes and could you spare 20$. Or being accosted by a random hooker.
I love to GM stuff and used to host a Dragon Storm session each year when was working with BDP way back. I've also GM'd the original Albedo as knew both the creator and RPG writer well way back.
But Im not going to attend knowing the staff and and nigh certainly will be treating people like dirt. Or worse. I had run-ins like that years ago at other cons and have seen first hand just how bad things can get short of violence.
I really miss the days Andon ran GenCon.

I did not see anything wrong with your comment.
From personal experience: Some advice then:
I'd say that if you really want to do this then go in as planned if can find enough folk willing. But go in cautiously, aware that there might be a problem. Or hopefully there might not be any problem at all.
Much like posting over on RPG.net. You can cross the minefield and never get blown to smithereens. 8)

I would think it works out better next year. I cant imagine a heavy con attendance for any con with the coof lingering about.
Gencon supports violence, and censorship. I will not give my money, time, or labor to an organization that follows those practices.

I'll be sure to turn in a report from DragonCon when I go there in two months. I'm not being flip here; I'm curious myself to see what the fallout will be from this bullshit.

In general, I mean the Covid scare. Supposedly DragonCon will be limiting day passes this year. No idea how the remnants of the lockdown will affect gaming, crowds, etc.

GenCon is hillarious because the Coof will keep all the libtards away and their overt politics have chased us Trumptards away. They've literally shot themselves in the foot.

Have you considered doing this online? Like on Roll20 or some other social website?

GenCon just announced that masks will be required, inside and in crowded outside areas. Because everyone has to be masked they will no longer be asking for proof of vaccination (which previously allow you to forgo the mask). However, they expect people to be vaccinated and still may require proof, they haven't finalized that yet. According to their polls, 90% of people they asked who plan to attend are vaccinated.
QuoteGenCon Blog
September is fast approaching, and I know I speak for everyone on the Gen Con team when I say that excitement is truly building. Yes, we're going to be a little smaller this year (remember 2016?), but we have a fantastic slate of events and exhibitors new and old, plus some exciting surprises, that will combine to make this a Gen Con like no other!
Like many of you, we're also monitoring the data on the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19. We're following the guidance of the CDC, and continuing to work with local Indy officials including the Marion County Public Health Department. To further enhance the health and safety of everyone at Gen Con it's time to make some changes to our previously announced plan. In sum: It's time to mask up.
Mask wearing will be required in all indoor and crowded outdoor Gen Con spaces. You must be wearing a mask while attending Gen Con Indy unless you are actively eating or drinking. Accordingly, we are dropping the option to show proof of vaccination to forgo wearing a mask at Gen Con.
Speaking of vaccination, we anticipate that everyone 12 and older at Gen Con will be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and over 90% of you have indicated in survey responses that you already are. Our staff is 100% vaccinated and we're firm believers in the value and importance of vaccination. If you are one of the few folks in our community who can get vaccinated but haven't yet — it's not too late! Make an appointment now so you can join us in September with the full protection these great vaccines provide.
Many of you have also asked about making vaccinations mandatory for Gen Con attendees. While we're not announcing such a policy here yet, we are working with local health officials and may do so at any time prior to the convention. You may have seen other conventions moving forward with proof of vaccination policies; many of these are based on state or local mandates, which provide legal grounds for requiring vaccinations. While we fully support vaccination requirements, we must do so with the backing of our legal and health safety partners in order to move forward.
To be clear: as we continue to speak with our legal and health partners we may make vaccinations mandatory for attendance and we'll alert you if that occurs. Again, this is another great reason to get vaccinated NOW. The Gen Con community is counting on you to do your part and we would hate to turn anyone away.
So, to reiterate:
Mask wearing at Gen Con will be required at all times while indoors or in crowded outdoor areas for all Gen Con attendees, exhibitors, event organizers, and staff.
If you have a documented medical reason that prevents you from wearing a mask you may present documentation at the Special Services kiosk and we will make necessary accommodations (face shield, etc., as appropriate).
These new measures support our existing health and safety enhancements:
Reduced capacity to approximately 60% of normal size
Increased spacing for all gaming tables in event areas
Nightly closure of the convention center from midnight to 7 am for cleaning and sanitizing
New hospital-grade air filtration systems at the convention center
Contactless doors, faucets, and restrooms at the convention center
Increased hand sanitizing stations
More outdoor activations
Conditions are changing on an almost daily basis and we're doing our best to adapt and ensure that we can all enjoy Gen Con safely. Stay tuned to our emails and social channels to get the latest updates and we'll share more details as we get closer to showtime. Thank you for your support and see you in a few short weeks!
Greetings!
In most places that I go to--businesses, the barber shop, grocery store, gas station, different restaurants, the gun store--no one is wearing a fucking mask.

Same.
Just had a wonderful in-person session last Friday with complete strangers and not one person even mentioned the Coof, much less had any sort of mask anywhere to be seen, nor any social distancing beyond that normally expected of civilized human beings. There was even talk afterwards of wanting to set up a new gaming club for in-person gaming because people are sick of Roll20 and Discord and how you can't get half as much done in twice the time.
I think this old 3.5e ad sums things up nicely...
