This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Gen Con Indy] Never too early...

I'll never breathe a word! :D

Quote from: Zachary The FirstClash, any chance some of the YGN crew along with Better Mousetrap might bond together and get some booth space?  I know XRP's booth is always popular, and Bill's got his thing, but pricey (and man, is it pricey!) as booths are, I like to see the quality guys all out there as much as possible.  :)

I don't know. I might be able to share a booth with someone.

I hope IHW at least gets submitted for the Ennies.  I think it deserves a nod for "Best Rules" this year...

I'll be submitting IHW:NN" - that's about all I can do. :P

*Now that IHW is a game line, not just a one off, just plain IHW might get a might confusing! :D

We wont be manning a booth this year mostly due to being so very busy. HinterWelt actually has been doing better than ever but timing of the con is a real pain. I am hoping to get in on some space, possibly GPA or see if another vendor would rent me small piece of a table.

That said, being as close as I am, I am thinking of running SA! Shoaling Squirrels: Nuts of Fury, Squirrels Ahoy: Squirrels of the Spanish Main since I want to meet a lot of women at the con. ;)

I am open to suggestions though. Roma has fallen flat the last two years. Nebuleon and Shades of Earth have done the best. I am tempted to try Supers Inc but I just do not know how it would go over. I had a pretty good crowd last year.

I am hoping to get in on some Cold Space or SC2. What camp ground are you going to be in Clash? That might be a way to go for the family.

It will be great to see you all there.

Anyhow, I think it would be really neat if a few companies like or similiar to HW and FM and some of the Your Games Now crowd were able to get a base, and perhaps also represent folks from YGN who wouldn't otherwise have a booth presence at the con--maybe bring some CDs, so folks could buy and have burnt products they wanted from the other companies.  Enough of a chip-in could really help defray cost.

I'll definitely be running Cold Space, FTL Now, and IHW:NN, since I have the material all made up for Vericon. I'll try to run some StarCluster and IHW:AIS too if I can get something ready in time. I have a lot on my plate this year, what with my own games and work for PIG. Hopefully, I can squeeze in some Nebuleon or SA! I'd love to! :D

As far as campgrounds, I haven't made the hookup yet. I'll let you know. I've been family camping for years, and am pretty practiced at the art. Outside of gaming, it's my favorite pastime - I go 3-4 times a year - and we always do a lot of gaming while camping. Klax was brought up on it. It'd be a blast if you could get a spot at the same place! :D

I'm definitely going.  It'll be my first Gen Con and I'm looking forward to it.

Any suggestions on guides or threads I should check out before going?

Not really, but here are a few tips:

Don't over schedule, you are bound to find new things you want to try and didn't know about before you walked by their booth. So leave some time open with no plans.

Stop and talk to a lot of publishers, its fun to pick their brains and most are willing to chat. You may be able to snag review copies on the spot.

Go to the Ram,drink beer.

Hook up with people for after hours gaming. Wish I did last year.

C.W.: Here's an excerpt from my pre-show show guide last year, describing some other stuff to check out in Indy (just the tip o' the iceberg!). I'll also do a full pre-show guide again this year (as it gets closer, I'll be doing show highlights and stuff you may have overlooked as well):

QuoteOTHER STUFF TO DO, WHAT TO EAT:
Downtown Indianapolis packs a lot of events and destinations into a centralized
area. One of the best way to get around is the free IndyGo Blue Line, a bus that
does a figure-8 of all the area. Buses run 10 a.m.-10 p.m., 7 days a week..
Included at the Blue Line website is a map showing the route and local
attractions.

Victory Field: Getting in early Wednesday or looking for something to do
Thursday night? Across the road from the convention center lies Victory Field, home of the AAA Indianapolis Indians. Their ballpark has been voted Best Minor League Stadium in America, and it’s easy to see why. Nice seats, an old-time atmosphere, and a lawn beyond the outfield where folks pack picnics and spread out a blanket to watch the games on makes this a great way to pass an afternoon or evening. Besides, we all know hot dogs taste better when you’re in a ballpark. Tickets cost $8-$12.

Steak N’ Shake: Aside from bringing your own food, this restaurant just a block or so towards the city center from the convention is likely the most reasonable dining you’ll do in the area. It can get crowded, but the staff does a good job of getting folks their food and moving ‘em through. (Maryland Ave).

The RAM: This restaurant and brewery is beloved by gamers, and is basicallymobbed the entirety of the convention. Still, it's a gamer-friendly place, and a bit of a landmark feature of Gen Con Indy by now. Just down the road from the convention center. (S. Illinois Street).

Circle Center Mall/Food Court: The Circle Center Mall is just two blocks down from the convention center, and is another quick place to pick up some food. It's standard food court fare, from generic food court Italian to generic food court Chinese, and is a little overpriced. The rest of the mall does better, with UA movie theater, and all the standard stores you'd expect at a mall. It can be a nice break if things get a little overwhelming or you'd like a break.

Indianapolis Zoo/White River Gardens: About a mile west of the Convention center lies the Zoo and White River Gardens. The zoo is a lot of fun, with a current meerkat exhibit going on, daily dolphin shows (and a clear walkway under the giant dolphin tank, which is indescribably cool), and one of the nation's top elephant programs. Exhibits can be a little spread out, so folks who don't want to walk should take note.

The Gardens are small but excellent, with some unique planned gardens.
They're also in the middle of their butterfly exhibit, which sees about 2 dozen different breeds of butterflies (and about 2,000 overall specimens) inhabiting The Gardens.

Indiana State Museum/IMAX: Just northwest of the convention is the Indiana State Museum, which also features an IMAX screen. The museum itself has a fun, eclectic mix of exhibits, and the IMAX will be showing both regular IMAX and 3-D movies the entire week of Gen Con.

BEST OF THE REST: If you're thinking of traveling further afield, the
Indianapolis Museum of Art is wildly underrated, features beautiful gardens, and fantastic American and Neo-Impressionist collections, with quality representation from other schools and movements (El Greco, Rembrandt, Gauguin, Rubens, Millet, etc.).

Conner Prairie is a re-creationist 1830s pioneer
settlement, where the re-creationists do a fantastic job of staying in character and knowing their stuff--this is one of the top "living history" museums in the nation.

Indy's Children Museum is a total, hands-on blast for kids and parents
alike, and is the largest children's museum in the world; the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will likely again have a gaming tie-in event (Note: in 2006, it was video game music!), and lastly, there's the Indiana State Fair (Aug. 8-19), which averages around 1 million visitors a year, features, all sorts of free entertainment, exhibitions, a pioneer village, great food, antique machinery, petting zoos, and much, much more.

And if you have any other questions about Indy or the environs, just ask!!! I want you to enjoy my beloved midwestern city (and home of the 2006-2007 NFL Super Bowl Champs!! [sorry Clash!!--I couldn't help it!]).

Well, I have only recently convinced Linda that it is cool. I've done my share of camping and anything that has indoor toilets is a luxury. ;)

Don't let the word 'Children' in the title scare anyone off.  My wife and I spent an afternoon at the Indy Children's Museum and had a great time.  That was before our daughter was born.  It's just a great museum.
