This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Gen Con 2008: What Would It Take For You To Go?

So, in the interests of getting as many friends, co-posters, hell, even relative strangers from this site as I can to Gen Con Indy next year, I want to post a survey to see what folks' needs were, what would entice them to going to Gen Con, and if we could possibly look at doing something as a site to try to make the trip as easy for folks as possible.

Now, I've been kicking things around in my primitive Hoosier brain since the Con, and what I want to know is:  what would it take for you to go?  Would you want to go and support a RPG Site booth, perhaps one featuring folks doing free, open play games of some old and new-school goodness?  A platform for some of our resident and would-be publishers to showcase their wares?  Or would that not interest you at all, period, and you just want to hang out 24 hours a day for the entire con?

Obviously, the poll questions are not catch-alls.  Above all, I'd like to see if these any interest in any sort of RPG Site event/drive/organization, before pursuing anything else.

I'm going--no matter what. But I can't support anyone's booth.

My plan for this next one is to pull 7 GMing slots for 4th Edition D&D-- that is 28 hours of GMing.

I can't go into too much detail - but because of the Klingon Jail thing, I'm able to go to GenCon at all. Its like a trade off thing similiar to what the GMs and volunteerrs get.

If it wasn't for the jail activity - I doubt I could afford to go at all. Its also , in a smallo way, what i'm able to do for charity each year. In the early '90s I was healthier and had more energy - did a LOT more events like that.

I would LOVE it if more of you guys could make it there.

Heck, would love to actually sit down for a few hours and game there next year.

I'd love to go. Money isn't so much the issue for me as time, I will  likely do a month or more of field work on another continent next summer. And even though I'll likely be in the USA when the con is on, I'd have a hard time selling another absence to my wife, "Hey babe, just got back from six weeks in Spain, mind watching the kids for the weekend while I jet off to indy for some gaming? Wait, what are those scissors for? Lets all just take a step waaay back and calm down a little..." As it has so many times before, it all comes down to making a choice between getting sex and playing RPGs.
You are posting in a troll thread.

It's all about the lack of Benjamins, baby. I'd have to raise the cash on my own, since my wife has much better arguments on how to use the family income.

I can afford to go, and am going anyway, but I would love to help out in some capacity, as a volunteer, hence my vote.

I had to look at the choice this year of do I save money to spend on trying to publish stuff for Riki-Tiki-Traveller when the SRD comes out (and be serious about this project), or do I go to GenCon. It'll probably be the same decision next year for me.

I'll be at GenCon UK next weekend, albeit for one day only.

I wasn't planning on going, but a friend who wanted company offered to spring for my ticket, so I thought "why not?"

Hm... so it is USA visa, plane ticket Europe - USA, entrance fee and I am poor student. That means I wouldn't get the visa in the first place not talking about not having that amount of money. The gates of GenCon are closed to me... :raise:
