This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A better gaming hex map...cheap, inexpensive scenery you didn't have to construct from stock paper...a Chargen program for your favorite game....prepainted minis for Traveller ships...what gaming accessories do you wish were available, cheaper, or more readily available?

TRAVELLER universe plastic model kits - all of them close to the same scale. Think of those old AMT kits of the STAR TREK starships sold in the 1970s.  They would make good "props" for describing some  game situations.  Start with the Empress Marava and the Type S Scout/Courier first.
Give them some movable cargo doors on hinges, clear canopy wnidows for the Marava and the Beowulfclass Traders.

Better yet - Mega miniatures finally making the Empress Marava for their line of TRAVELLER miniatures would make me VERY happy.

I would also like nicer, cheaper scenery.  I can't think of anything else off hand, though.

Gunslinger

Miniature kits that could be modeled to fit existing characters.  Similar to assembling Warhammer 40K space marines.  It can be extremely frustrating to find a miniature that fits an existing character.

MORE Hex Maps in the GURPS scale would be really nice to have.
There just isn't enough of them.  paizo should do those besides the D20/OGL stuff that they are doing . (those "GAMEMASTERY" packs of maps)

I'd like a fully functional character generator program for spacemaster: Privateers, not a spreadsheet like they have now.

I agree, but I'd also like it to be durrable, like the Mageknight Dungeons stuff.  I don't want to have to handle it like egg shells or take hours to pack and unpack it.  It would be nice just to toss it all into a platic box, throw it in the backseat, and haul it to the game session.

My friend Joel is the master of the cheap scenery.

He gets stuff at Dollar stores, like aquarium scenery and little trashy figurines. He has a small box of the stuff. Including stuff like wishing wells, small houses, ruined walls, rocks, 'ruins'.. I think most of these were made to be used as aquarium pieces.

Stuff like this:

or this:

Another cheap must-have is wedding cake pillars:

Which are like 4 for a couple of bucks.

Rafm had a series of these back in the day called "Custom Characters".  Each CC model came with three heads and a slew of weapons and other accessories.  Most CC parts fit most models.  I've done some internet searches for them and they are not readily available, but it's something to be on the outlook for.

Maw, great tips!

Dice wands. Sure, they were crap back in '83, but I'd much prefer an inexpensive updated version to the sack full of polyhedrons that spill out in my backpack every time that ride the bus to a game session.

Plastic counters. Cardstock counters are great, mind you, but if I don't laminate them before I cut them out, they don't last long. I'd like to see counters with the durability of plastic minis.

If there were decent -- wouldn't even have to be all that great -- I'd buy them in a second!

My rules and comments about good GMing:
  • Improvise as much as you can
  • A character sheet is a list of items that tell you what the story should be about
  • As a GM, say "maybe" and ask your players to justify a "yes"
  • Immersion isn\'t a dirty word.
  • Collectively, players are smarter than you and will think of things you never considered.

I'd like a little folding box that you could roll dice in so they don't go off the table. It'd have to be folding so you could pack it with you when you went to and from the game. Shoeboxes can be too bulky to carry around.
