This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yeah, I don't see the point either.

Note how some people at the start were questioning who would "not want to like" a game.  The fact is, and this thread's testimonials prove it, there's lots of reasons why you might not want to like a game.  And there are some times when you're going to end up liking a game in spite of those initial reasons.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, most of the posts here are about people who did not expect to like a game (but were pleasantly surprised) rather than people who actually did want to like a game (but were won over by it regardless). Not wanting to enjoy and not expecting to enjoy are very different attitudes and the thread seemed to ask specifically about the latter.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

That's why the question of "who would not want to like a game?" was raised in the first place, and why I think the posts on this thread in fact do not valid the Pundit's "point" above.

Is not... It's all about the games we all didn't want to like, but for some reason ended up liking anyway, on account of some game detail, concept, or mechanic.

Why are you suggesting the change of focus for this thread?

Ummm... games I didn't want to like, but ended up liking anyway.

I'd have to say the Arcanis Campaign Setting. I was very skeptical, and felt somewhat pushed into picking Sicaris when it was first released, however it became one of my favorite campaign settings.
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

There are pleanty of games I did not like.  I tried them but they were so bad and the system was so broken I just gave up on the game.

But that is a different thread

I'm not.  Did you read Pundit's post and understand what he meant by it? I'm guessing not, if you think I was changing the focus.

Do they not want to like a game or not want to like ideologies, companies, et al., attached to the game? 'Cause I'm with the folks who think consciously deciding not to want to like a game is weird and, honestly, dumb.

There are any number of reasons to "not want to like a game": I don't want to like this game because its published by Palladium, I don't want to like this game because I heard it had a random-roll system, I don't want to like this game because the author is known for being a radical marxist, I don't want to like this game because its about robots and robots are stupid, I don't want to like this game because it seems like vanilla fantasy and that's overdone, I don't want to like this game because it looks pretentious and like it tries too hard to be "edgy", I don't want to like this game because its rules-lite, I don't want to like this game because its from an OSR author, I don't want to like this game because because its diceless, I don't want to like this game because its based on a licensed book/movie/show I can't stand, etc etc.

Most of those are not reasons I personally would not like a game, they are only there by way of example.

I didn't really expect to like "The Pool" (yeah, I know, a "swine darling"), but I did.

Fasa's Behind Enemy Lines was another one that I didn't expect to like (I didn't really see how a squad-level WWII RPG where you played one solider could work), but ended up having a lot of fun with.
