This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[FtA] Trollans as PC race for he-man-like setting

I'm currently prepping a FtA con adventure in a he-man-style setting.
Mostly I can work with quick&dirty assumptions - laser guns and permanent wands of [small magical projectile] are just damn expensive "Ranged Combat Weapons" with a RoF similar to ye ole bow, combat robots are just monsters similar to golems (natural DR, immune to mindfuck), and in regards of PC races "orcs" can also cover all other kinds of dumb and hideous brutes along the line of Beast Man or Two-Bad.
While the role model doesn't feature your usual hobbits, dwarves and elves, I guess they wouldn't look out of place in such a gonzo setting.

However, there's one thing from the role model that I want to add and that FtA can't handle out of box: Trollans as PC race. (Orko is the prime example of this race, in case that you aren't that familiar with MotU.)

As natural levitation is a boon that isn't comparable to that of other races and as FtA lacks guidelines on race creation, I'm not sure if my attempt is balanced or not. I'd especially like to hear Pundits input on this one, though everyone else can also make suggestions.

Trollans
Trollans are very short blue-skinned people with pointed ears. They usually wear a robe and a hat of red color and hide their faces behind scarfs.

+1 to CHA
-1 to CON
-1 to STR

Base movement to Trollans is 30' per round.

Trollans are naturally able to levitate up to 5'. In addition to situational perks (like avoiding to get stuck in deep snow), this gives them a +2 bonus to sneak and negates all falling damage, as they never have to touch the ground.

Moreover, they gain a +1 bonus to all occult lore checks.

As all Trollans are naturally inclined towards magic, they have to be rogue-wizards, wizards or (as non-prefered class with the usual penalties) warrior-wizards.

Trollans, due to their size, can't use 2-handed melee weapons, longbows and heavy crossbows. They can use one-handed melee weapons, but require both hands to wield them.

Trollans speak Common and Trollan. They can choose bonus languages equal to their INT bonus and can choose from any language.

You're giving the race exemplified by frickin' Orko a Charisma bonus?

Orko definitely is my favorite character.
IIRC the German "audio plays" made him pretty competent and smart, no?

Jeff:
Look what Orko can get away with _without_ turning whole Castle Greyskull into a lynch mob out there to get him... I guess he needs an _awesome_ Charisma stat to regularly meet that target number :D

Set:
Dunno about the audio plays, I never owned them, and on the cartoon Trollans and especially Orko never seemed especially clever to me. "To be liked by the heroes so they protect them" seemed to be their main weapon for survival.

This seems pretty well constructed to me.  I think its not very difficult to create new races for FtA!, which is why I didn't feel the need to create specific guidelines; the new FtA!GN! sourcebook will have a number of new sample races.

I will agree with Jrients though, that a CHA bonus seems a somewhat odd choice. I might make it a +1 to DEX instead.

Thanks for looking over it :)

In regards of attribute bonuses I asked my registered-in-advance players with Dex and Int als alternatives, and they were most cool with Charisma.

The other two choices would probably also be good, though. If anyone wants to use this PC race, feel free to change that point.
