This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ok, same deal as the previous thread; you name images and concepts that spring to mind as "stuff you would want to see in..", in this case for a Fantasy India setting.

For me, these would be: Lots of small principalities and city-states, and small kingdoms covering a vast area.
Rakshasas!
Tons O' Gods, but more importantly a ton of different philosophical systems; where sometimes people who follow different gods will be able to get along better than two people who are initiates of the same deity but with different philosophical views on the same (personalism vs. impersonalism, etc).
Jungles, mountains, and sacred rivers

arranged marriages and hot dancing girls - need the fun stereotypes as well as the realistic

Extravagant palaces and temples, some of which will be from previous cultures but have been renovated.

Large differences in wealth - super rich princes and hordes of peasants (actually that's true of most places).

Huge differences in climate and terrain over the course of the play area - deserts, jungles, mountains, each group of kningdoms would have it's own setup of economy and lifestyle dictated by these.

Butter chicken. Mmmmmm, butter chicken. :D  Any various number of curries, lots and lots of spice. Spice in the air everywhere.

Hey, what if the entire game world was an almost endless Indian buffet?  Fights would break out over control of the best dishes.  The king would be the guy with keys to the bathroom.

No kisses at all. Any time a couple is about to kiss each other, they should switch to a 5-minutes Bollywood musical. :D

Good points about the gods/philosophies.

Sacred cows.
Huge (and I mean HUGE) temple complexes in a kalediscope of colors.
War elephants.
Chariots.
Mountain passes.
Vedic chants.
Monkeys.

Too bad GURPS India never came to pass. It could've been really good if it didn't wind up like GURPS China and try to cover too much in one book.

BTW, I'd like to add that Green Ronin's "Mindshadows" is a decent faux-Indian setting. Gurus, ashrams, psionics, dwarven mechs!
