Title: Free adventures?
Post by: beejazz on April 28, 2013, 12:38:27 PM
So I'm looking to run games again this summer, but looking to cut down my prep time. This would be my first time actively looking for premade adventure and setting materials and I'm really not sure where to find the good stuff yet.

So where do you go for free adventures and/or modules? What reviewers do you generally listen to when picking and choosing what is worth a download?

I'm mostly looking for maps and NPCs, so any (fantasy) system is good.

DriveThruRPG has a huge amount of free stuff. Crazy huge amount.

Also, if you are looking for fantasy stuff, there are lots of free adventures on //www.Dragonsfoot.org made for Classic D&D.

If you find anything particularly awesome, please post about it!!!

Two amazing resources:

Maps and some free, fully statted adventures:
Dyson Logos (http://rpgcharacters.wordpress.com/)

Hundreds of short adventures (and extremely varied map styles):
One Page Dungeon Contest (http://campaignwiki.org/wiki/DungeonMaps/One_Page_Dungeon_Contest)

Dirk has some good suggestions with Logos and the 1-page archives. Dyson has some good ideas. My experience is that they generally scream to be expanded out in to something more. Many of the 1-pages fall to the same problem.

I keep a list of my favs on my "Best Of (http://tenfootpole.org/ironspike/?page_id=844)' reviews page, along with review links. These are the free ones:
Red Demon of the Vile Fens
Prison of the Hated Pretender
Garden of the Hag Queen
Obelisk of Forgotten Memories
Tempus Gelidum
Tomb of the Bull King
Systema Tartarobasis
Melford Murder
Challenge of the Frog Idol
The Ruined Hamlet/Terror in the Gloaming
Gone Fishin'
Red Tam's Bones

Thanks for the tips so far. I'll be putting together a big ass folder of this stuff, and may go over it in reviews, AP recaps, etc. if I have the time.

My initial forray into this was to go to DTRPG and pick out free fantasy adventures in the search.

I got a lot of crap that wasn't fantasy and wasn't adventures in alphabetical order, but off the list I grabbed the following:

650 Fantasy City Encounter Seeds and Hooks
A Magical Society: Guide to Mapping
Adventure Module BL1-2: The Ruined Hamlet/Terror in the Gloaming
Blackmarsh
Citadel of Evil
D6 Fantasy Locations
Escape from Kosht
Free Maps!
Frozen Wind
Generic Maps #7.5
Generic Maps #9.5
Looking Glass Deep
The One Page Dungeon Codex 2009, deluxe
Waypoints 0: The Village of Cowfold

Dragonsfoot (http://www.dragonsfoot.org/dfpublications/) has a whole bunch of free D&D adventures, and some are pretty awesome.
