This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

About getting feedback on a system in the works

Grettings!

I've been lurking the forum for a bit and decided to give it a try. I posted already in the Game Development section with the system I'm working on, but I'm not sure if it was the right spot to post there. Didn't get any feedback on that front if I did post it in the wrong section.

Feedback is one of the hardest things to get, TBH. I send every new book to half a dozen alpha readers every time, and only get one or two good responses.

Maybe you can post a link here so people can easily access the doc and give their impressions. A small summary of what the system is about and how it differs from D&D (or runequest etc) would be useful too.

EDIT: Just noticed you posted a summary here. I don't have much to add, as I only play old school D&D nowadays. I like the idea of classes, I'm using 4-metaclasses myself, in the style of D&D 2e. The system looks good but too unfamiliar for me to try, TBH.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I see. Good to know. It is a long way from being finished, but I got the rough outline of it settled. I posted on this forum here: https://www.therpgsite.com/design-development-and-gameplay/path-of-heroes-a-wip-dicepool-game-with-a-sliding-class-system

Didn't get much traction and I though that maybe I posted at the wrong spot or some such. Didn't go overboard with the details to not make it a lsog to read through.

As near as I can tell, this forum doesn't really explore the homebrew RPG space beyond OSR. It's not that there's zero interest; it's that this is basically an OSR forum. This annoys me a little because I am also an avid homebrewer and theRPGsite is really not a great place to share my work on.

However, even on dedicated design websites, it's very difficult to get people to read full-sized RPG projects. In my experience, it is far better to summarize your system briefly and ask specific questions in a self-contained post, and if the people answering have their curiosity piqued, then maybe you can get some traction on more of the system. However, the latter is very rare.

I have to echo Fheredin here. Getting feedback on rpgs is very difficult, especially for complex systems. You might be better off publishing a first edition and then incorporating revisions into a second edition.

I got frustrated with how insular, unresponsive and uncreative the ttrpg community is for anything beyond D&D, so I decided to make a crpg instead because even if it sacrifices the sheer power of mind theater curation, people are much more willing to play it and provide feedback. I'm probably better off building a fandom that way, then making a ttrpg tie-in later.

I see it is OSR-based, yeah. Still, worth a try ^^

And I'm getting some engagement and I'm very elated by that :D

I know the feeling. Tried my hand in showing others my homebrew in D&D 5e that doesn't toe the line of the standard 'balance' and mechanics. I hope your cRPG is going along well!

Thanks. I hope so too.
