SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: jormungand1Although its only very indirectly related to whatever measure of success you want to come up with, its still fun to look at Google trends on D&D, which show declining numbers of searches over the past several years:

Here's the same, but with "Gygax" as a search term which dwarfs the searches for D&D right around his death:

And finally, showing WoW:

That's why they are searching google all the time for "Age of Conan" because they are trying to figure out how to get the friggin' game to work on their underpowered machines!  :p

Heh.

What will come of Age of Conan will be the same was befell every other would-be competitor to WOW that doesn't die off: they will stabilize at some population that is well below that of WOW, likely through featuring one strong element of gameplay that they do better than WOW.  WOW will respond to this by copying and assimilating it, in a half-assed version, into a future patch or expansion, and that will be enough- despite all the wailing, moaning, bitching and gnashing of teeth expressed in that shithole of the Internet that is the official WOW Forums.  What we have here is the MMO version of the Fantasy Heartbreaker problem.
