So one thing I've noticed about DCC is that, considering how important Patrons are for wizard PCs, there are relatively very few of them in the book.
What's more, fully fleshing out patrons is not an easy task. To make one's own Patrons you need to detail invoke results, spellburn, patron taint, and three full-blown spells (that on top of everything need to be properly balanced).
So I know that DCC put a Patrons book out, but let's suppose you live in a third world country and can't afford the cost of shipping... are there any resources where DCC fans have made their own patrons? Ideally ones that don't suck?

Check out the Goodman Games forums.
Yeah, coming up with Patrons is the most labour intensive DM job in the game.
The Patrons book can be had as a .PDF... so, less concern for shipping costs.
I think there is at least one in the Crawl fanzine (also to be had as a cheap download now). None free online that I know of... maybe in some buried corner of the GG forums.
Patrons seem like a bit of work but lots of fun to make... I've got a few in progress but haven't playtested them yet.
Given the interest many have for this one from Goodman here, it seems like it would be a cool thing for folks to post some of their patrons for others to perhaps use or find inspiration.

Yes. Or links. That's what I was hinting at.

Ya, I got you. Just reiterating I suppose. The following is a compiled list from the Goodman forum. There are a fair number. So, there are bound to be one or two good ones. I somehow doubt they have the amped strange/weird that therpgsite could come up with, though... I was looking over the ones in the rule book I have, and the write-ups in there average about 4000 words, with complete entries for each section of the description of the patron.
Perhaps the thread could use just some ideas for interesting patrons to write-up to get things going. Any particular specific pathos or genre you would like to write up Pundit? Perhaps a test write-up of one of your settings. I'm not sure myself.

I love the new Patrons book but one issue that has arisen for me with the published Patrons so far is that I can see how they could trend toward creating lots of 'anthropomorphic' wizards. Too many of them have their taints turning them into physical avatars of the Patron... lizard-men, turtle-men, rabbit-men, crab-men. A little of that goes a long way.
I can imagine a Patron being backward engineered from a desire to have magical cat-girls.
My favorite Patrons so far have behavioral aspects to their Taints... such as followers of Hecate being increasingly inclined to shun the daylight and cast spells under the full moon... or bizarre/absurd curses like the tynge of Celtic legend.
Also, specific to my homebrew setting... any Patrons I create would have obsessions with obscure aspects of nature/emotion/activity.
I figure the major stuff, lust/vengeance/love, are for the gods. Patrons are minor powers in comparison, they sweat over the little things.
I've been working on one that feeds off 'the feeling of longing that a traveler feels for home'... so a taint from him might be something like the old Celtic curse, 'May you leave without returning.'
It favors roads and wars and ships... caravansarai and bridges.
Its invocations center on helping people move 'further' and 'beyond'... but only in one direction.
Its spells are about 'getting away.'
That's the sort of thing I'm thinking of.

I was mostly asking in reference to research for my upcoming review of the DCC rulebook.
While I would love to try playing DCC someday, I haven't yet thought out what I would actually run.. and in any case, my dcc dice haven't arrived.

I see. This is one of the hurdles for the game, if one is setting up a unique campaign. So, it is review worthy. That's for sure. The examples or defaults given in the main book are pretty good. So, there is at least that in the main book for a guideline. Any normal setting will have at least 12 patrons, though. 48,000 words of campaign writing.

Yeah, I found only 5 fully-fleshed out patrons to be rather limiting.

Thanks for pointing that sale out. I have been eyeing the book for a while, but wasn't keen on spending so much for just 13 patrons. Snagged :)
