This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Skywalker;581768Yeah, between The Enemy Within re-release, 2e going POD, and Star Wars RPG pillaging it, I think 3e is going into retirement.

In other news which is perhaps relevant to this, Jay Little has just launched a Kickstarter for a totally new RPG using a few of the regular 3rd edition writers.

Is this independant of FFG?

Looks that way, I think its his own company from the write up.

I found the link again: http://www.coriolisdefect.com/

I must admit i lost interest in keeping abreast of FFG years ago, so i haven't kept up to date with comings and goings. Is he still an employee of FFG?

Edit: My eyes glazed over after reading about 'unique mechanics'. It could be an interesting concept, but the blurb comes across more as there are ways in the game to replay what you've done before untill you get the end-result you want. Needless to say - i don't want.

As far as I knew he is the lead developer on Star Wars and has a dozen board-game design credits as well. Although I believe he took some time of with a Heart Attack last year.

Well, I wish him luck, the Coriolis Defect certainly looks like he's come up with an IC way to "set the stakes".  It actually sounds interesting.

Maybe with the apparent death of WFRP3, we're getting over the "get cred by fucking over an established IP with radical changes, so I can get the backing for the game I really want to make using those ideas" (aka Rob Boyle Shadowrun Syndrome).
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Quote from: Skywalker;581813The dice mechanic, the basic stat/skill/talent (sans cards), and some of the resource management.

That dice mechanic is the best innovation in RPG game design to come out in the last 20 years, IMO, I just adapted it to use for my CoC games. I'm halfway tempted to pick up the new Star Wars RPG just based on that, though I haven't touched a SW game since d6 1e.

Quote from: jadrax;581879TBH, I think splitting the box-sets down into separate books is overly generous.

Possibly. As I admitted, I am not an expert on 3e :)

I don't personally agree but I assume FFG thinks that there are enough people who think like you, given its definitely the core fo the system :)

Book usually goes from £15 - £30 on ebay, depending on the phase of the moon and how recent the last auction was. Of course, Rules Cyclopedias used to go for about the same and I've seen them go for stupid money. Think one was £70+ the other month and I had to look twice and rub my eyes.

So yeah, that's an expensive book, but if you want clean, unused, new I guess it's an option.

If WOTC go the same route with the BECMI or RC sets I'd have to restrain myself, admittedly. I'm glad this stuff will live on though. Sure, newer is shinier and the cool kids might play it, but a lot of the time there's nothing broken about the thing its replacing...

There are other WFRP2e books that usually go for a lot more than the rulebook.

The range of prices on ebay is weird. There's currently a Games master's Tool Kit listed at 65 quid.

One advantage of POD is that it should create more stability in the second hand market too. You get a stable baseline which other prices become based off.

RPGPundit

Well, its a good thing that they're bringing 2e back in this way.

Doesn't mean much for me personally, since I have just about every WFRP 2e book, or at least every one I'd want. Including the Tome of Corruption, which I regularly use in my Dark Albion game.

That item has been high priced for years.

Probably won't change either, as I don't believe they will do screens as POD.

The other usual big $ items in the line:
Night's Dark Masters
Children of the Horned Rat
Realm of the Ice Queen

Tome of Corruption and Career Compendium were two the big ones, though.  Good to see them available.

Hope we see this with more games.
