This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yeah, between The Enemy Within re-release, 2e going POD, and Star Wars RPG pillaging it, I think 3e is going into retirement.

FWIW it had a decent run though (about the length of 2e's) with all the major supplements planned released for it IIRC.

I have a few books from them, black and white softcovers, and they look as good as any other black and white softcovers I own (Pendragon and Wu Xing).

So it's a storygame and not an RPG?

I hadn't heard about that . What star Wars RPg is this, and what did they pillage?

Unfortunately the elves got pretty short shrifted in this edition. I was hoping for at leats one more supplement to give them a magic system at least.

It does sound appealing, but since there may be an neat alternative (*ahem*Zweihander*cough*), I'm willing to sit back and let them both vie for my affections.

Vie!

The dice mechanic, the basic stat/skill/talent (sans cards), and some of the resource management.

They got shrifted in every edition, 2e was just no different.

But then again, they are Elves so true WFRP fans don't really care :p

Works great. My copy of majestic Wilderlands is beat to hell and back and still holds together.

TBH, according to the rumour mill, is already in retirement, with no authors having written anything new, the last play-test being the disguised SW rules and the Enemy Within being locked in a drawer despite being finished months ago.

I have no idea what supplements they planned tbh, but their certainly seems to be a lot of material 1st and 2nd covered that 3rd has not even touched upon yet.

I guess FFG sees it that if all the cool kids are doing it, then it should do so too :)

Neat, hopefully my evil plan to move into a small duplex and work at home comes to fruition so I will have money for books and maybe even food.:)*

*I'm pretty sure I can get food stamps for the pesky food thing given my current circumstances just been way busy lately, no time to get to the Welfare place and apply.:)

It is true that they did not cover much region setting material and it covered much less than 2e (though it seemed roughly equivalent to 1e, if not a little more, given 1e's focus on adventures). But 3e covered quite a bit and everything initially planned, if anything can be gleaned from the material released.

1st edition had two large city source books, which I think puts it considerably ahead.

I am by no means an expert on 3e as I can't stand it, but it has had a decent amount of material released for it. Outside of the mechanic only books and adventures, there is the Bestiary, two Books on Magic, two Books on Religion, a Book on War, a Book on Politics, and 4 Books on the Chaos Powers.

I am not sure where it sits exactly in terms of quantum TBH, but I think 3e did OK in terms of amount of material it released and covered all the obvious gaps in it's schedule. YMMV I guess.

TBH, I think splitting the box-sets down into separate books is overly generous. Especially when something like Liber Infectous, the Nurgle Book is 48 pages, and 28 of those are the scenario. It is really just the GM section of Signs of Faith (also 48 pages) put in a separate book because you can do that with a boxed set.

But it actually works out even thinner than that. Because despite the fact that there in a box of cards, about 50% of Signs of Faith is actually rules rather than setting. So you get 30 pages of setting in Signs of Faith and another ten pages in Liber Infectous. I believe the other 'Chaos Power' box sets are around the same ratios.
