This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The SJWs and other radicalized Democrats in the hobby are starting to hate on Wendy's now. Something to do with Trump.

Okay, well, that is pretty stupid too. Maybe that explains the reaction I have been encountering online. I like Wendy's food. I just don't see the point of a Wendy's RPG.

The great thing about the RPG hobby is that if official product sucks, we can make our own until they stop sucking.
Big money has been into RPGs since the beginning. See when Gary was out pimping D&D to various franchises.

And the various fast food franchises have notoriously been trying to out-hip each other on social media lately. This is a flash in the pan that will quickly fade.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Jesus fucking christ. I guess I should have expected something like that.

It's like, the grognards are hating on Wendy's for their game being an advertisement and not being a real RPG set of rules. And the pink hairs are all in a bunch because of Wendy's game and politics not being their cup of tea either.

Quote from: Rhedyn;1107567I'm trying to think of one thing I hold sacred enough that I would not find a Wendy's parody amusing.

This isn't about holding anything sacred.

Quote from: jeff37923;1107571I can understand it if this commercial parody doesn't tickle your funny bone, but the level of disgust you are showing is kind of disturbing.

I am baffled, not disgusted

This is probably the greatest satirical shot at WotC that's ever been taken...and I don't think it's intentional.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;1107649There is more context to what I am saying here. When this came out, my response across the board was the same "not interested, looks stupid". What I am not understanding is the strong reaction that sentiment got.
It's kind of weird, but not out of character for this site.

My attitude is not far from yours Brendan. Someone in my D&D 5E game group mentioned it online. I clicked his link and saw it was an app from Wendy's and had no desire to look any further.

Not hardly. The OD&D rules were one step above a mimeograph machine. Maybe by the mid 1980s, but that was more than 10 years after the publishing beginning.

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;1107646I don't know why this is so difficult for people to understand. Parody is fine, I don't like this parody. I can't take it seriously as a product. All I can do when I see it, is roll my eyes. I don't get why everyone is reacting so strongly to someone not liking it. Look, I think the concept is stupid. I think the parody is not funny. And I don't get why when you essentially say "I have no interest" people have been getting so angry over that. And I definitely don't get why people are being so literal all of a sudden. Is there some other proxy issue this has been affixed to or something. It is just an RPG put out by a fast food chain.

I highly suspect you're a Ronald McDonald fanbois and love those frozen burgers.
Me.  This is okay, but I can't wait for the Dunkin Donuts RPG.
;-)

Doom

I too am a little puzzled at the reaction.

Have I read a 90+ page ad for Wendy's? I suppose I have (fwiw, I like Wendy's food, though it's been well over a year since I've eaten any.)

Is it fairly priced? Yes. It's free. It's so tough to hate free; I know commercials are "free" but in this case I could have stopped reading at any time.

I'm already looking into modding the adventure for my 5e group, just for fun. I might even eat some Wendy's when I run it, assuming it can be modded easily. I suppose I could rant about how the game game isn't fully fleshed out but...free.

Get a grip. Nothing wrong with not liking a commercial, but ranting is a bit much.

A nice education blog.

OD&D was also well before RPGs entered pop culture, which was the beginning of D&D as a phenomenon.

Dunkies would never do this

Mistwell

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;1107549Because it is a Wendy's commercial. I'm just not interested in an RPG put out by Wendy's and the whole concept just seems a bit too much. There is Gonzo, then there is eating wendy's power up meals. I just cannot take this seriously and I really don't understand why people have any interest in it.

1. Gaming doesn't have to be serious, and dare I say it's healthy to sometimes not take it seriously;
2. It's kinda weird to see people who rant about anti-capitalists who get tweaked about commercialism in their precious hobby.
