This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It is stupid, no doubt about it. All the rest of the stuff you said is just meaningless drivel.

Quote from: Bren;1107591Just meh.

And this is a much more fair response.

Probably Alan Smithee.

Quote from: Antiquation!;1107588I don't get the appeal of the Stranger Things licensing at all. At least the Wendy's thing is sort of humorous (or at least intended to be), a Stranger Things D&D game would... just literally be D&D, right?

JRT

It was written by a marketing firm who's members I guess played D&D.  It was a firm that Daniel Fox worked at.

This is the firm, seems a standard marketing firm

I think the lead creator was a guy named Tony Marin.

Huh. Well, at least thematically speaking this looks different. Not sure about the prospect of a long-form campaign, but who knows.

That's because you are my target audience Brad

Quote from: Omega;1107587Then avoid any of the other myriad of silly or parody RPGs out there.
Starfaring
Macho Women With Guns, Batwinged Bimbos from Hell, Renegade Nuns on Wheels, More Excuses to Kill Things.
Paranoia
TOON!
Creeks & Crawdads
Bullwinkle and Rocky
Crushed and SMT

And those are just some of the older ones I can recall or actually have.

I am fine with parody RPGs. I just think Wendy's doing one is a crap idea and it holds zero interest for me. Parody isn't the issue. It is I am not interested in a parody RPG that is a commercial for Wendy's

If you're going to attempt to insult someone, you think you could at least use proper grammar? Thanks.

But this is what you said:
QuoteBecause it is a Wendy's commercial. I'm just not interested in an RPG put out by Wendy's and the whole concept just seems a bit too much. There is Gonzo, then there is eating wendy's power up meals. I just cannot take this seriously and I really don't understand why people have any interest in it.

So if you can't take this seriously, and it's a parody, like what? Also what does zero interest for you have to do with not understanding why other people have interest in it? You probably should just stick to, "I think this is stupid," and be done with it.

C&C was one of the most fun I've had playing a comedy RPG.

Highly recommended!

I don't know why this is so difficult for people to understand. Parody is fine, I don't like this parody. I can't take it seriously as a product. All I can do when I see it, is roll my eyes. I don't get why everyone is reacting so strongly to someone not liking it. Look, I think the concept is stupid. I think the parody is not funny. And I don't get why when you essentially say "I have no interest" people have been getting so angry over that. And I definitely don't get why people are being so literal all of a sudden. Is there some other proxy issue this has been affixed to or something. It is just an RPG put out by a fast food chain.

Simlasa

I think this blog has some interesting thoughts on it:

Some of his thoughts resonate with my feelings about certain aspects of current hobby stuff... D&D 5e, nu-Chaosium, live-plays.

There is more context to what I am saying here. When this came out, my response across the board was the same "not interested, looks stupid". What I am not understanding is the strong reaction that sentiment got. Like I can get it if people people like it while I don't. I don't understand the the response that not liking it seemed to trigger. By the time I had posted here, I'd already fielded a number of angry responses and demands for me to show in the text of the book why it is so terrible.
