This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Feast of Legends from Wendy's

Quote from: jeff37923;1107545Why not? You have to admit that it is gonzo gaming at its most refined.

Because it is a Wendy's commercial. I'm just not interested in an RPG put out by Wendy's and the whole concept just seems a bit too much. There is Gonzo, then there is eating wendy's power up meals. I just cannot take this seriously and I really don't understand why people have any interest in it.

I can't take it humorously either Rhedyn.

The saddest thing about all this is realizing the hobby is filled with Wendy's IP fanboys. Wendy's was always my favorite fast food place, but I never once had an itch for a Wendy's RPG. And if someone has a good RPG in them, I think cramming it into a Wendy's concept would only make it worse. What I've seen of it though is pretty mediocre. And the jokes are not exactly funny either. Just not getting why people are so into this one.

Not something I would ever run r play. If it gets more people into the hobby so much the better.

I'm trying to think of one thing I hold sacred enough that I would not find a Wendy's parody amusing.

Agreed, only way it could be a better gateway into the hobby is if they made it 2d6 or 3d6 based, this would lower the entry point price to almost zero.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

My buddy texted me about it earlier this morning and said a bunch of SJWs were protesting on Twitter, that people are talking about this instead of supporting indie publishers, Wendy's supports Trump, Wendy's doesn't pay their workers a living wage...and then we have BedrockBrendan acting like it's the fucking apocalypse that this thing even exists.

I looked it over, and honestly, this thing is highly playable. It's basically a parody, but 1) it has high production values, and 2) it's free. So what's the gripe? Anyone complaining has zero sense of humor.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

I can understand it if this commercial parody doesn't tickle your funny bone, but the level of disgust you are showing is kind of disturbing.

nope

It's pretty amusing. The debuff "if you eat gas station food, -2 to intelligence rolls for the day" got a chuckle out of me. It's clear that some thought went into this, I found the weapons listings, adventures/locations and monsters pretty fun to read. The classes are pretty decent too.

I'd never run this myself, but it appears to be a functional game and I could see maybe running this for young kids or something if they gave out print copies for free (or cheap). It's sort of the RPG version of those coloring pads + crayons they offer at restaurants.

SJWs have no sense of humor. This is well known.

All of their complaints are that people are daring to have fun playing RPGs, when all wokethinking people know that RPGs are Srs Bsns.

Ratman_tf

I felt the same way about the Stranger Things version of D&D.
1. Meh.
2. Wait, how is this different from regular D&D? Are the kids in this? Is it some kind of meta-RPG where you play the kids playing D&D?

So
1. Meh.
2. Wait how is this different from a regular RPG? Is this some kind of fantasy world populated by fast food mascots? Do you play people eating fast food?
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Then avoid any of the other myriad of silly or parody RPGs out there.
Starfaring
Macho Women With Guns, Batwinged Bimbos from Hell, Renegade Nuns on Wheels, More Excuses to Kill Things.
Paranoia
TOON!
Creeks & Crawdads
Bullwinkle and Rocky
Crushed and SMT

And those are just some of the older ones I can recall or actually have.

It's not different, really. But I get the sense it's meant more to be read and laughed at (and function as advertisement) than actually played. As others have mentioned, the production value is high and the art and layout is very good.

You do play people who eat fast food (healing items are various forms of lemonade and chicken nuggets), monsters abilities are food-themed (otherwise they're 'real' monsters in the sense of creatures, one of them for instance is basically an ice golem with tentacles). Weapons take the form of frying pans and etc., armor takes the form of aprons or crumpled up tin foil, class abilities are food-themed but are otherwise pretty 'normal' class features (here's your spicy chicken themed burning touch move, etc.). Basically a normal RPG dressed up and "themed." The overland map and adventures give it a sort of one-shot theme park style vibe, like a Christmas or other holiday-themed adventure intended to be used then discarded.

I don't get the appeal of the Stranger Things licensing at all. At least the Wendy's thing is sort of humorous (or at least intended to be), a Stranger Things D&D game would... just literally be D&D, right?

That would be 3rd Edition Cyberpunk 2020.
